While Apple did not announce anything about the highly anticipated Apple Watch Series 3 at the WWDC 2017 developer conference event, tech enthusiasts are still hoping to hear an announcement soon. It is expected that the Cupertino-based tech giant will unveil the next-gen Apple Watch Series 3 alongside the much rumored 10th anniversary special iPhone 8 sometime in September this year.

According to a report published by the Chinese Economic Daily News website, Apple has awarded the manufacturing contract for the next-gen wearable device to the Taiwan-based tech company Quanta Computer.

The tech company has already assembled Apple's first generation as well as second generation smartwatches so far.

Apple Watch series 3 to get micro-LED display

Latest rumors suggest that the upcoming wearable device will feature a micro-LED display instead of an OLED screen that is likely to remain at 1.65 inches. In fact, as per reports, the iPhone maker is developing its own display technology, dubbed micro-LED tech, in collaboration with 2014 acquired LuxVue, a company that develops micro-LED displays. Notably, use of micro-LED displays will increase the battery life of the wearable device, which will make the device last for more days between charges.

Among other specs and features, the smartwatch is rumored to feature a front-facing camera that will let users make calls, click selfies and may be FaceTime video calls as well.

The tech giant is also expected to include an upgraded processor in the next-gen smartwatch for better speed and performance. The device is also expected to get LTE support to enable a data connection without the need of a companion iPhone. The watch is rumored to get smart fabric bands that will show notifications, date, time and more.

The new device is expected to get new tracking sensors that will help to track blood sugar and detect vital signs for a possible heart attack. At this point of time, it remains unknown as to how exactly the upcoming smartwatch would allow users to perform sugar level test.

Launch alongside iPhone 8 possible

Apple had previously released the Series 2 smartwatch alongside the current iPhone.

So, it is highly likely that the smartphone maker will follow the same release pattern for the upcoming wearable device and release it alongside iPhone 8 in September 2017.

As Apple has not yet announced anything about Apple Watch 3 specs, features or release date, fans are waiting.
