China-based smartphone company Nubia, has apparently confirmed that its upcoming Nubia Z17 will be released very soon with a whopping 8 GB RAM capacity. The smartphone is a product of ZTE’s sub-brand Nubia and is being manufactured in China. Nubia smartphones are generally premium category devices where special attention is given to the handset’s design, as well as innovative-semi-useful functionality features like Nubia Z9’s touch sensitive display frame.

Reportedly, Nubia’s public relation team confirmed on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo, that the impending Nubia Z17 would be coming with an 8 GB RAM.

However, other leaks and rumors point to the handset coming in 4 GB and 6 GB RAM variants other than the 8 GB of RAM premium variant. If the news turns out to be true, then the handset would be competing with the upcoming OnePlus 5, which is also rumored to come with 8 GB of RAM.

As of now an 8 GB of RAM device can only be used to boost the marketing hype about the upcoming smartphone and lure consumers to buy it when launched. Apart from this, from a technical point of view, it does not serve much of a purpose. However, in the not-so-distant-future 8 GB RAM will be more of a necessity than luxury as more and more OEMs’ will install AI’s in their smartphones. These virtual assistants will be using each and every computational resource a smartphone can provide, to throw-up accurate or near-accurate answers and suggestions.

Nubia Z17 to come with waterproofing certification?

Apart from the enormous RAM capacity, another surprising detail has been revealed about the upcoming Nubia Z17. It is also being rumored that the device will come with an IP6X water resistant certification. If this rumors turns out to be true, the handset would be the first Chinese smartphone to boast of water and dust resistance capabilities.

Rumored specs

Reports state that Nubia is trying to keep the smartphone range accessible to all by releasing two cheaper variants of the handset featuring lower RAM capacity. Rumors hint that the Z17 range will comprise three smartphones in total, the premium Z17 with 8 GB of RAM and two cheaper variants featuring 4 GB and 6 GB of RAM.

It is also rumored that the Nubia Z17 may sport a 5.5-inch edge-less display with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. The display may come also feature force touch technology. Rumors have been rife that it will also house the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC to support the huge 8 GB and 6 GB RAM. Leaks and rumors also point at dual-rear camera setup featuring. Given that the Z11 with 6 GB of RAM is available in the United States, it is safe to assume that the Chinese OEM will launch the Z17 in the country as well.
