On Tuesday, May 23, AT&T announced that it will be offering the Tizen-powered Samsung Gear S3 on its catalog from Friday, May 26. Now a new update is on its way to the smartwatch and packs in some great features other than performance improvements and bug fixes.
The update comes with an array of features for Samsung Gear S3. The Tizen-powered smartwatch is available in the United States in Frontier and Classic versions. The update comes with the software version of 2.3.2.3 for TizenOS on the Gear S3.
The smartwatch update
Apart from bringing some great features, the update also fulfills some promises Samsung made during the product launch.
The Software Update comes with minor bug fixes that will enhance the stability of the device marginally. Apart from that, Gear S3 users will now be able to add music compilations and dates to watch faces, which basically means that one can add widgets to the Watch Face. This in turn will make it easier and simpler for users to access their frequently-used apps. Given that the smartwatch does not run on Google’s Android Wear OS, it would be quite an interesting set of changes that the update would come with.
What does the update bring?
The new update comes with improved Watch Faces, Alti-Barometer, Samsung Health, S Voice, News Briefing, new Settings and Accessibility options, Find My Device feature, iOS support, Samsung Gear, and Stopwatch.
In Watch Faces, one can now add new music and date to selected Watch faces. A new altitude auto fresh feature has been added in the Alti-Barometer. Samsung Health comes with added HR Zone information for running and customizable pace-coaching feature.
One can now set date and time while creating a reminder with the S Voice feature of the smartwatch.
The enhanced and improved UI makes it easier to read news through the widget. Along with "Additional Languages," that has been made available for download, a new TTS option has also been added in the Input Menu in Settings. The "Find My Device" feature will now display the owner’s contact information on the Gear S3 in case it gets lost.
In the Accessibility option, new features have been included in the Direct access menu which includes dark screen, accessibility, screen reader, negative colors, and greyscale.
iOS support brings bug fixes for connection stability, S Voice recognition rate, and Music Transfer from PC, along with UX enhancements. In the Samsung Gear support, an Auto Switch feature has been included that will automatically connect the wearable to the paired smartphone. Apart from this, the maximum time limit in the stopwatch has been increased to three hours, and the DIRECTV application has also been updated.
Partner applications for download
Keeping its promise, Samsung has made them partner applications available for download in the Galaxy Apps Store for its Gear S3 smartwatch.
The apps which are now available for download are Spotify, BMW Connected, Facer, Gear for Nest, and NYC Transit. To download the update, one has to go to Samsung Gear > Settings > About Gear > Update Gear software.
