Ubisoft previously decided that it was going to be taking a year off in releasing a new "Assassin's Creed" video game, which is why players didn't get anything new last year. However, new reports are now revealing that the company may be on the brink of unveiling its latest offering this year.
Leaked title
According to the most recent reports, the brand new "Assassin's Creed" video game is going to be titled "Assassin's Creed Origins." The game was previously rumored to be titled "Assassin's Creed Empire," but it seems like Ubisoft had decided to go to an entirely different direction with the concept.
The Title itself was first reported by WWG, which was then corroborated by other gaming publications who also confirmed the title from their own sources.
Possible first-look at the new title
Shortly after the title had leaked, an off-screen image of the alleged game was published on Reddit. Someone was apparently able to take a photo of an in-game test that showed a bow-wielding character riding a small boat.
Based on the structures in the background, the game will likely not be taking place in Egypt as was previously rumored. A report from Eurogamer also revealed that the new title was going to be a prequel that will be made available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC later in the year.
Return to form
Ubisoft previously announced that they would be taking a year off to properly develop a new game that will be worthy of the previous titles that were released in the main series. The past two titles, namely "Assassin's Creed Unity" and "Assassin's Creed Syndicate," didn't do as well as the franchise's previous titles.
"Unity" was riddled with bugs and technical issues and turned off a lot of the franchise's fans. "Syndicate" on the other hand was seen as a commercial failure as it did not meet the company's sales expectations.
While the company did not directly point to the past games as being the main reason for the one-year hiatus, Ubisoft did explain that they would require the time to properly "leverage new technology" and "give the brand a new dimension."
In a previously released statement, Ubisoft acknowledged that they have learned a lot from their fan's feedback and will be taking all of them into consideration for the next game.
The company also explained that they would be making changes to their development process that should lead to an evolution of the game's mechanics.
