With "Injustice 2" set to be released on May 16 in the U.S., a new trailer has now been revealed on YouTube and Twitter. This trailer showcases the story, characters, and various features that will be included in NeatherRealm Studios' latest fighting game.

The story: The stakes are high

As a sequel to 2013's "Injustice: Gods Among Us", "Injustice 2" is set to pick up right where the first game left off.

In "Injustice: Gods Among Us", Batman manages to overthrow Superman and the Regime by summoning various Justice League members from an alternate universe.

With their help, Superman is finally subdued and incarcerated for his crimes against humanity.

The latest trailer now reveals that the game "opens in the wake of the dismantled Justice League, as Batman and Superman clash for control." This means that the Kryptonian won't be Batman's prisoner for too long.

However, Superman won't be the only threat in this sequel, as Brainiac and countless other villains are set to join the fray.

The narrator in the trailer then goes on to say: "The decisions you make will have earth-shattering consequences." Needless to say, the stakes will be high.

Characters and alliances

NetherRealm Studios has previously teased the first three DLC characters of the game, namely Red Hood, Starfire, and Sub-Zero. Including these DLC characters, "Injustice 2" will have a massive roster of 32 playable characters.

The latest trailer for "Injustice 2" further reveals that there will be three major alliances in the game, each led by Superman, Batman, and Gorilla Grodd respectively.

Superman's team will include the likes of Robin, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and Black Adam, whereas Batman will opt to work with Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, and the Flash.

Gorilla Grodd, on the other hand, has formed a powerful society consisting of notorious villains and mercenaries, such as Catwoman, Deadshot, Captain Cold, and Scarecrow.

However, there will also be plenty of "wildcards" in the game. Supergirl and Swamp Thing, for example, won't be swearing fealty to anyone.

Gear system, Guild and 'Injustice 2 Mobile'

Furthermore, the trailer touches upon the gear system of "Injustice 2". This is a new feature, which allows players to unlock various equipment for their favorite characters. With these gear, players can customize the looks and abilities of their characters.

While the new gear system is innovative and looks fun, it may cause balance issues in the long run. And considering how competitive this video game genre is, this may be a huge problem for "Injustice 2".

The trailer further shows the new guild feature, which allows players to join or create guilds.

By doing so, players will gain access to daily challenges and gain more experience. They can also participate in online group battles with members of their guild.

There will also be a mobile version of "Injustice 2". Purchasing the mobile version of the game will have its perks, as players will be able to unlock gear for the console version of the game by completing challenges on "Injustice 2 Mobile".
