Marvel has finally announced a release window for Insomniac Games and Sony’s PS4-exlusive Spider-Man game. According to a livestream with Marvel Digital Vice President Ryan Penagos, the superhero title will potentially be coming out in 2017.

The upcoming game, which is yet to be given an official title, was announced during last year’s E3 presentation. In a livestream captured by a Reddit user, Penagos said that Spider-Man will be heading to PS4 later this year.

What’s more, other Marvel games are in the pipeline as well.

"There’s even more on the horizon for 2017,” said Penagos. “Like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC.”

Marvel: tie-ins don’t work anymore

Penagos didn’t mention a specific date, but Polygon notes that it won’t be tied into the upcoming Spider-Man movie, “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” The observation stems from Activision’s previous marketing stint, back when it handled the Spider-Man IP. The studio used to release its games as a tie-in to bigger events happening in Marvel’s comic book universe of which includes the Spider-Man movies.

“Things like [games] you cannot under-resource," Jay Ong said, Marvel’s vice president of games, told the publication last year. "You cannot give the development time ... to do justice to the game. Ong added that rushing development to correspond with the launch of a film became quite unfavorable to the quality of the game.

Known details of the new Spider-Man game

The new superhero game casts players as the iconic web-slinger in a completely original story. The events of the game take place in New York, at a time when Peter Parker is more adept to his skills.

Spider-Man for PS4 is the first licensed game Insomniac Games has. The studio made name for itself upon the release of the “Ratchet and Clank” series.

More information the upcoming game should be released in months to come. The annual E3 convention is just a few months away, so expect to hear more about it during the event, which starts June 13 and will end June 15.
