One thing that has been made perfectly clear, in the period of time since Nebraska football finished its regular season, is that the coaching staff isn't shy about turning over every rock they can to find talent. The Cornhuskers' staff has stepped up its efforts to reel in JUCO players. They're also going out of their way to make sure that kids who won't be able to set foot on campus until the fall of 2022 are getting some love.

One instance of the turning over any rock approach working well is when Scott Frost and company went after a Lincoln, Nebraska kid who had already committed and accepted a full-ride scholarship to play for South Dakota State.

Earlier this week, Luke Reimer announced he had decided against taking a scholarship with the FCS school. Instead, he will be walking on for the Huskers.

Nebraska football lures player away

In a tweet that Luke Reimer sent out on Friday (November 30), he made it clear he simply could not turn down the Cornhuskers when they came calling and asked for him to walk on. He started off the tweet talking about how he had nothing but respect for the coaching staff at South Dakota State. He seemed genuinely remorseful that he was changing his mind and would no longer be coming to the school. "But it’s been a dream of mine to play on the biggest stage for as long as I can remember. Nebraska has given me the opportunity to do just that.

I can see where Nebraska is heading and I want to be apart of it.[sic]"

He concluded the tweet by making sure it was clear that he had de-committed from the Jackrabbits, who the Huskers have played in prior years under head coach Bo Pelini, and would be staying in Lincoln for his college playing career.

By doing so, Reimer knows he is not guaranteed to ever receive a scholarship to play for the Huskers, but believes the chance to put for the scarlet and cream is simply too great of an opportunity to pass up.

Luke Reimer turned down more than just SDSU

It's important to note, that while SDSU was the school the Lincoln North Star product was committed to, it wasn't the only school that was offering him a full-ride scholarship.

He has offers from SDSU, North Dakota, Northern Iowa, and South Dakota. He also had an FBS offer from Buffalo. It needs to be repeated that Luke Reimer turned down an offer to play for a Bulls team that is currently 10-3 and headed to the MAC championship game, in order to pay to play for the Nebraska football team next fall.
