LeBron James had quite a few reasons he chose to join the Los Angeles Lakers rather than remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The legacy of the Lakers team was one. Living in sunny California and getting out of the fridged temperatures of Cleveland was another. Being close to Hollywood so he could begin working on his post-NBA career was another. However, one thing that he hasn't enjoyed since moving to the City of Angels was the heightened crime rate.

LeBron James hires armed security guards for protection

LeBron James has two sons and one daughter with Brinson.

LeBron Jr. is his older son, born in 2007 and considered one of the top high school basketball recruits in the nation. His second son is Bryce and his daughter is Zhuri, both just four years ago.

While LeBron is all about his basketball career and legacy, he has proven over the past few years to be a stronger family man who puts a lot of attention into making sure that his kids are in a safe place. With that in mind, news just broke that James hired at least 10 armed security guards to keep him and his family safe.

What happened to LeBron James in Los Angeles?

According to TMZ Sports, LeBron James has learned that his home was targeted by burglars. This is a rampant problem for wealthier neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area.

With so many break-ins and robberies, James wants to make sure that he is kept safe while living on the West Coast.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has hired over 10 armed guards, including many who are off-duty police officers that moonlight as security in the area. These armed guards will patrol his house and also the NBA security team will remain involved in securing his home as well.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), four people who robbed more than 24 homes were recently arrested and the police believe there are more involved in this burglary ring. LeBron James was one of many celebrity targets on a list that the police obtained.

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Yasiel Puig and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Robert Woods have already been robbed by the group.

LeBron James would be the third Los Angeles-based sports star robbed, but he has made sure to get ahead of the thieves.

According to the LAPD, they originally thought that the burglaries were random targets. However, it turns out that the ring of thieves have targeted homes of celebrities and athletes like LeBron James based on social media posts that reveal when they are home or away on travel.
