The New York Giants have been busy retooling their roster as their Week 1 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars takes place on Sunday (September 9). Last Sunday (September 2), they made an NFL-high six waiver claims after rosters needed to be trimmed to 53 players last Saturday (September 1). After a disastrous 3-13 season in 2017, the Giants have continuously looked to make improvements heading into the new season.

On Tuesday, they made yet another move. According to Giants Wire of USA Today, they have signed defensive tackle John Jenkins. To make room for him on the roster, the Giants parted ways with linebacker Romeo Okwara. Also, according to Bleacher Report, the Giants agreed to a deal with linebacker Nate Stupar on Tuesday. As of the writing of this article, it is not yet known who the team has cut to make room for him.

John Jenkins

The large defensive tackle Jenkins (listed at 6-3, 327 lbs. according to his NFL.com page) was a third-round selection by the New Orleans Saints out of Georgia back in 2013.

He played for the Saints until halfway through the 2016 season when he was cut by the team. He played two games for the Seattle Seahawks that year but spent the 2017 season with the Chicago Bears. The 29-year-old played in eight games with one start recording eight tackles. He was waived by Chicago on Saturday. In 59 career games (23 starts) over five seasons, Jenkins has accumulated 126 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Nate Stupar

Just one day after he was released by the Saints, Stupar was picked up by the Giants. He has been an important player on special teams which is an area New York had its struggles with last season. The 30-year-old was a seventh-round pick by the Oakland Raiders out of Penn State in the 2012 NFL Draft.

He never appeared for them as his playing career has been spent with five teams: the Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, and Saints.

Last season, Stupar only played in four games as a torn ACL cut his year short. He received his most playing time in 2016 when he started in six games and played in all 16. That year, he finished with 48 tackles, one interception, and one sack. Over his six-year career, Stupar has played in 63 games while starting nine. He has 99 tackles, two sacks, an interception, and also returned a fumble for a touchdown in 2015.

Romeo Okwara

The 23-year-old Okwara spent two seasons with the Giants after going undrafted out of Notre Dame. He played in six games last year but was placed on injured reserve after recording three tackles. As a rookie, in 2016, the linebacker had 21 tackles and a sack.
