After NBA rumors were confirmed as true that Dwane Casey was fired as head coach in Toronto, now there appears to be someone interested in taking the open job. Rapper Master P has recently tossed his name out there as a candidate to guide the ship north of the border. Here's what the hip-hop star had to say regarding the Toronto Raptors' coaching vacancy.
Rapper to coach Raptors?
The Toronto Raptors were the No. 1 seed in the NBA's Eastern Conference for the latest installment of the playoffs. Unfortunately, they fell in defeat in the second round to a superstar they just can't get past - LeBron James.
The Cleveland Cavaliers swept Toronto out of the playoffs and now the Raptors are watching as LeBron and the Cavs battle the Celtics for a spot in the NBA Finals.
That resulted in the firing of the Raptors' head coach Dwane Casey despite the fact he helped guide them to impressive seasons in the East during his tenure. He was also the NBA Coach of the Year for the past season. The firing took many people by surprise but has Percy "Master P" Miller suggesting that he understands the firing and could take the job.
Before Demar Derozan was an NBA all-star I coached him & Romeo from the 7.... https://t.co/UfCA03jKEn pic.twitter.com/viscGyiIzP

In comments he made while talking to TMZ Sports, Master P said he'd be the "perfect coach" for the team and that he has an understanding of the players.
He said he knows this team should have gone farther in their postseason run. Miller added that the team has two All-Star players and that the benching of DeMar DeRozan hurt the chemistry of the team during their series against Cleveland.
Master P's credentials
Master P has a resume that includes plenty of hit records for No Limit Records.
Over the course of his music career, he released a total of 16 albums beginning with 1991's "Get Away Clean" through 2015's "Empire, from the Hood to Hollywood." He's got several more projects in the works with release dates that are "to be announced." However, he's known for his business sense as well as having some skills in the Basketball world.
As mentioned in Master P's Twitter post (shown above), he coached his son as well as DeMar DeRozan in the seventh grade. That was part of the "PMiller Ballers," which P calls one of the "top AAU programs." So Miller may have some credibility in terms of helping a player reach his potential with the NBA, and he's quite familiar with DeRozan.
Miller has played basketball and attempted to play in the National Basketball Association. In the early 90s, he tried out for both the Charlotte Hornets and the Toronto Raptors. He had contracts with both teams but was unsuccessful at making either of the NBA rosters, though.
He played for several CBA teams in the late 90s and early 2000s, as well as a few ABA teams in 2004.
In addition, P started up his own basketball league in 2017 known as the "Global Mixed Gender Basketball" league, or GMGB. Some of the star players in his league include Metta World Peace, Caron Butler, Brittney Griner, and Angel McCoughtry.
Raptors coaching rumors
The latest Raptors head coach rumors from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski indicate that Percy Miller probably isn't in line for the open coaching position. If he is, he's not high up on the list, but another guy who has experience in the league as a coach is. Former Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer is said to be the top candidate at the moment that the Raptors are considering for the job.
Mike Budenholzer has emerged as the focus of the Milwaukee and Toronto coaching searches, league sources tell ESPN. Raptors are opening conversations with Budenholzer and Bucks will re-engage with him early this week, sources said.

With that said, Master P surely realizes he can still be involved in the Raptors' success (or another team's) if he can find a way to invest in the team. Fellow music stars Usher Raymond and Nelly have both shown the ability for hip-hop artists to become part owners of professional basketball teams.
