The MLB offseason has been a slow one for most teams not named the New York Yankees. The Yankees have shown that they are serious about making a run at another ring in 2018 when the team shocked the baseball world by landing the biggest fish out there by trading for Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton. If that doesn’t scream “all in,” nothing does.

The Yankees are still active in the market for other starting pitchers, and at least one marquee free agent seems to be interested.

Darvish has Yankees on list

Yu Darvish had a bad Game 7 in the 2017 World Series, but he is still one of the most sought after free-agents on the market today. According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Darvish has a few teams narrowed down that he would be interested in signing with this offseason and one of them is the New York Yankees.

Darvish has his wish list down to the Yankees, Cubs, Astros, Rangers, and Twins - ironically all teams that have a great shot at the postseason in 2018.

Fulmer deal still in play?

If the Yankees can’t persuade Darvish to sign a deal, could they still be interested in Detroit’s Michael Fulmer?

Fulmer has been linked to trade rumors in the past with the Yankees and according to a recent Detroit News article Fulmer is far from “untouchable.”

In fact, it hints that the Tigers and Yankees could make a deal that could help both teams keep going in the direction they expect in 2018. The Yankees are built to win now, and they have made it clear that they want another starting pitcher to help bolster their staff. The Tigers are in a total rebuild mode, so prospects are not a bad thing right now for Detroit.

How about Fulmer, and possibly another pitcher (Shane Green) to New York for Yankees' prospects Clint Frazier and Chance Adams? It has been reported that the Tigers rejected a deal for a Fulmer-Frazier deal earlier this offseason because the Tigers wanted a second prospect or starting player.

Frazier was a top-40 prospect overall per BA entering the 2017 season.

Fulmer’s stock has never been higher, so the Tigers asking price isn’t that unreasonable. While these youngsters are some of the top prospects in the game, they are still prospects. Fulmer has already shown he can compete at a high level in the big leagues. Hopefully, the Tigers will hold out for a high prospect or two if they do decide to deal Fulmer this off-season. What they got in return for Justin Verlander is almost laughable - especially considering Verlander's career and how effective he is still.
