While the MLB trade rumor front has been quiet so far this offseason, a former MLB General Manager believes that a lot of action is potentially right around the corner, and one of the deals could be a blockbuster. Most teams won’t trade a star to a divisional rival unless they are getting one in return. This particular MLB trade rumor hitting the internet could be a “win-win” for both teams involved.
Orioles, Yankees dealing?
When the Baltimore Orioles and new york yankees hit the field for spring training the goal is the same - win the American League East and make it to the World Series. For decades these two teams have had a heated rivalry, and as most baseball fans will tell you, there isn't much love lost between the cities of New York and Baltimore when it comes to talking smack about the boys of summer. However, could these two be getting together to make a blockbuster deal?
Star for a future star?
How about Baltimore shipping Manny Machado to the New York Yankees for prospect Gleyber Torres?
According to Jim Duquette, this deal could happen - and should happen to improve both teams.
NJ.com is reporting just that in an article for MLB.com in which Duquette explored the possibility of the Baltimore Orioles swapping third-baseman Manny Machado to the Yankees for superstar prospect Gleyber Torres.
Here is why it could make sense for both squads.
For New York: The Yankees want a title in 2018. Machado is a proven ball player who, if added to a lineup that already can score runs, would make New York the favorites to win the AL East by far, and a team that no pitcher wants to face. Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Manny Machado? That is one tough 2-3-4 or 3-4-5 no matter how you slice it. It would also solve their problem at third base.
Machado is just 25, and you can bet if this deal went down New York would want to make sure they can sign Machado to a long-term deal.
For Baltimore: The Orioles know Machado is a free agent after this season. Will he stay or will he go? That is the million dollar question. If Machado tests the market, Baltimore loses a great player and gains nothing. In dealing for Torres, the Birds receive the No. 1 prospect in baseball. Sure, we never know how a prospect will pan out, but the upside to Torres in very high. The 20-year old infielder has the potential to become a star in this league.
Duquette makes great points for this trade to favor both teams. What do you think MLB fans? Would you trade the No. 1 prospect in the game in Torres, for a proven player like Machado?
