The WWE's next pay-per-view on the schedule will be the "Survivor Series 2017" event. The annual PPV has become associated with the Thanksgiving holiday as past editions of the event have featured team elimination matches which were usually 5-on-5 battles until one team was eliminated. There will be several of those again this time around, as well as "Champion vs. Champion" matches between the two rosters' current title holders. There's also rumors of a possible big name superstar joining the lineup. Here are the latest details on the "Survivor Series" match card.
Match card
So far it's known that this will be another event for bragging rights as Team "Raw" battles Team "SmackDown." Each brand will have a men's and a women's team competing in "Survivor Series" matches. The "Raw" women's team will be captained by Alicia Fox, while Becky Lynch is team captain for "SmackDown." For the men, Randy Orton won a match to become a member of Team "SmackDown" for the men. So far, not much is known about who is on the men's and women's teams beyond those stars, though.
There are also "Champion vs. Champion" matches between the two rosters. For example, WWE "Raw" tag champions Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose will battle "SmackDown" tag team champions The Usos. "Raw" Women's Champion Alexa Bliss takes on "SmackDown" Women's Champion Natalya, and WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz takes on WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin.
Special referee?
Another champion vs. champion match will feature current WWE Champion Jinder Mahal battling WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. There are no titles on the line in these particular matches, simply bragging rights. However, this match could involve a special referee and based on rumors it could be a major superstar returning to the ring.
Some rumors floating around have suggested that John Cena would put on the striped shirt to call the match. However, other reports have indicated WWE is looking to bring in a legend like Stone Cold Steve Austin or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. All three of these superstars would give this match a bigtime feel if they were officiating it.
The Rock is always popular no matter what he seems to do on a WWE PPV. Stone Cold might be a good choice, especially for fans who want to see a "Stone Cold Stunner" delivered on the "Modern Day Maharaja." However, it's looking like WWE will probably use John Cena based on rumors that he'll challenge Jinder Mahal at next year's "WrestleMania 34" for the championship.
WWE's "Survivor Series 2017" will take place on Sunday, November 19th, 2017 in Houston, Texas.
