Jimmy Garoppolo is no longer a member of the New England Patriots. NBC Sports talk has reported that the New England Patriots have traded Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday evening and even though Garoppolo didn’t see the field much, it has left many fans puzzled a bit.

Garoppolo was supposed to be the future quarterback of the Patriots, but the problem is Tom Brady is leading a life like Benjamin Button - he is aging in reverse! Even at 40 years of age, Brady is once again having a great season, and that may have ultimately led to New England's decision to strike a deal.

Garoppolo, who is just 25 years-old, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2017 season is complete. That could have been the final reason New England decided to deal him away because odds are the Pats would have had to franchise tag him to keep him.

The 49ers may have to do the same next spring, however, they are more concerned about locking up Garoppolo in a long-term deal.

Brian Hoyer released after Garoppolo trade

After trading for Jimmy Garoppolo, the San Francisco 49ers have reportedly released backup quarterback Brian Hoyer to make room on the roster for Jimmy G. That may make Hoyer a happy man in actuality, because early reports indicate that he may be headed to New England to become Brady’s back up once again.

Hoyer has played backup to Brady before, and don’t think that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has forgotten that. While it is far from official, it would make sense for the Patriots to bring in someone who is familiar with the system to man the ship behind TB12, and the former Michigan State Spartan fits that role perfectly.

Hoyer entered the NFL as a undrafted rookie with New England back in 2009 and played for the Patriots for three seasons until he was released at the beginning of the 2012 campaign.

It would make sense for New England to bring Hoyer back into the fold, but time will tell if they do so.

New QB, new coach and new era for Niners

The 49ers are trying to recapture their winning ways and while their record right now doesn’t show it, the pieces are starting to fall into place.

After signing Kyle Shanahan at the end of last season to take over the coaching duties, San Francisco now has a quarterback they believe can lead them into the future in Garoppolo.

It has been a wild ride for Niners fans the last few seasons, however, it looks like stability may be just around the corner.

In return for one of the most hyped backups in the league, the Patriots will receive a 2018 second-round draft pick.
