The Michigan Wolverines and Cincinnati Bearcats will square off this Saturday afternoon from the Big House in Ann Arbor, Michigan. On the heels of thrashing the Florida Gators in Week 1, the Wolverines now get a chance to play in front of the hometown fans this weekend. The Bearcats also posted a win last weekend as they tripped up Austin Peay 26-14.
Michigan defense - potential to be best?
Michigan fans don’t want to put the cart before the horse, but after the defensive display the Wolverines put on in Dallas last weekend, the bar has already been set high in Ann Arbor. Michigan has a new defense from 2016 - literally. The Wolverines had to replace ten starters on defense from last year's squad that was one of the best in the nation, so to put on that kind of a display in Week 1 was pretty impressive.
The Wolverines' defense gave up only three points, held the Gators to 11 yards rushing and 192 total yards, and recorded six sacks. That is putting in some work!
Nevertheless, Coach Harbaugh has already put last week in the past. All the focus now will be on the Bearcats.
Cincinnati tries to pull off a huge upset.
The Bearcats beat Austin Peay in their home opener last week. While the win may not grab people’s attention, it should. That win was Cinncy’s first victory since Oct. 22, 2016. On that day, the Bearcats beat East Carolina 31-19. Since that victory, Cincinnati had been 1-7 in its last eight games.
While they were happy to start the season with a long overdue victory, they only managed a total of 249 yards on offense. That won’t fly this Saturday if they plan on pulling off a major upset this weekend against Michigan.
