It was a wild Week 1 in college football! Already we have seen a few upsets, many highlight reel type plays, one of the biggest comebacks in NCAA history and a shake-up in the AP Top 25. Not a bad way to start the season.

The NCAA Week 1 run down

Two of the biggest games on the Week 1 schedule, rankings wise that is, turned out to be pretty one-sided affairs when all was said and done. The Michigan Wolverines beat the Florida Gators by the final score of 33-17, and truthfully the game was nowhere near as close as the final indicates.

Michigan’s defense dominated the Gators from start to finish, surrendering under 200 total yards to Florida for the entire game.

Florida’s two touchdowns came on defensive scores, but aside from that, this game was controlled by the Wolverines from the word go. The win helped the Wolverines move up from the No. 11 spot in Week 1 to No. 8 heading into Week 2. The Gators, who came into last week at No. 17 are now sitting at No. 23.

The other big clash over the weekend featured the Florida State Seminoles taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama held a 10-7 lead at the half of this hard hitting slugfest, however, in the end, the Tide's defense was too much for the Seminoles as Alabama won going away 24-7. The win secured the No. 1 spot for Alabama, while Florida State dropped from No. 3 all the way down to the No. 10 spot.

If losing to Alabama wasn’t bad enough, the Seminoles learned that starting quarterback Deondre Francois will miss the rest of the season after tearing the patellar tendon in his left knee.

Last but not least, in the wildest game of the week by far, the UCLA Bruins beat Texas A&M 45-44 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Thr Bruins came back from a 34 point deficit in the second half - outscoring the Aggies 28-0 in the fourth quarter.

Clemson, Notre Dame impress in openers

Deshaun who? Kelly Bryant looked very impressive in his first start following Deshaun Watson’s departure to the NFL as the Clemson Tigers rolled to a 56-3 win over Kent State.

Bryant threw for 236 yards and a touchdown as Clemson rolled up nearly 700 yards on offense in the Week 1 win.

One other win of note came in South Bend as the Notre Dame Irish rolled over Temple 49-16. Junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush passed for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The Irish also had three different rushers eclipse the 100-yard mark as they rolled up 599 yards of total offense.

On the heels of a 4-8 season, starting the year with a blowout win is just what the Irish needed. Notre Dame, who wasn't in the Top 25 last week, is now the twenty-fourth ranked team in the land. TCU was also on the outside looking in last week, however, they are now sitting at No. 23.
