Charlotte Flair is one of the most popular female Superstars in the WWE. The daughter of legendary wrestler, Ric Flair has been with the WWE for 5 years. In that short amount of time, she’s won the NXT Women's Championship, became a four-time Raw Women’s Champion, main evented PPVs, and is part of the famous 4 Horsewomen stable consisting of her good friends Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, and Bayley.
Despite her many accomplishments, life wasn't also easy for Miss Flair. What many fans don't know is that her life prior to WWE was rocky. In fact, she had to overcome a difficult past, one that she's now sharing in a new book.
Her Backstory
Charlotte, whose real name is Ashley Fliehr, is the daughter of 16-time WWE champion Ric Flair. With a famous father, many would assume Charlotte had a life of luxury getting everything she wanted. While she did have a privileged upbringing, there were a few rocky times in her youth.
In her new autobiography, "Second Nature," co-written with her father, she opens up about her painful past. One of the topics covered in the book is Charlotte’s abusive marriage to her first husband, Riki Johnson. Charlotte, who married Johnson in 2010, revealed that it was difficult living with Johnson.
In an excerpt from the book, she writes about Johnson’s temper and being in fear of him. Johnson's anger was so out of control that he would often physically abuse her.
The marriage lasted less than a year before she found the courage to file for divorce.
Charlotte's future
Despite her painful past, Charlotte has created a big name for herself. Aside from her numerous championships, history-making matches, and being part of WWE's Women's Revolution; it's no surprise why she is one of the top WWE Superstars.
She's already etched out an impressive career and with many years left, Charlotte will have plenty of more championship opportunities along with big time feuds.
While she's currently not in the title picture, fans can still see Charlotte put up a fight on WWE Smackdown. She and good friend and fellow Horsewoman Becky Lynch are teaming together on the Blue Brand.
As a team, Flair and Lynch are unstoppable as they take on fellow Superstars such as Lana, Tamina, and Natalya.
