It is that time of the year again, and the Barclays Premier League is underway. Fans from all across the globe can rejoice, as we recap events that happened this weekend.
Wayne Rooney could not have wished for a better start in his first season back with Everton, as he scored the only goal in a 1-0 home win against Stoke.
The former Manchester United striker said "I’ve felt at home since I first stepped on the training ground.
I’ve been looking forward to this moment for a long time.”
FC Chelsea off to a rocky start
Chelsea was left in shock, as Burnley took home all three points at Stamford Bridge. The Premier League champions are suffering from a few injuries to key players, but that is still no excuse for the shambolic performance seen in the first half which saw Burnley take a three goal lead.
Despite managing to drag two goals back, to at least make the final result less embarrassing, Chelsea only managed to get their second at the 88th minute. They did not seem like they were coming back into it until that point and Burnley deserved their moment in the sun.
Six goal thriller between Watford and Liverpool
Fans from all around the world surely cannot complain about some goals seen in the opening weekend. After the seven goal opening match between Arsenal and Leicester, which saw Arsene Wenger's side come out victorious, Watford earned themselves a draw against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool with the last minute goal.
Huddersfield Town on top of the world
Newly promoted Huddersfield Town sit pretty at the top of the table after an impressive 0-3 away win against Crystal Palace. After an own goal gave them the lead; three minutes later, Huddersfield Town seized the opportunity by quickly doubling their lead. It is unlikely that they will sit in this position ever again, but they deserve to be first after that victory.
Manchester City favorites?
The Premier League has a few teams that can realistically challenge for the title, and Manchester City seems to be the top pick to go all the way. Guardiola has strengthened the team in the areas it needed the most, and they are beginning to play as a unit. In their opening encounter, they dispatched Brighton with no fuss.
Manchester United vs. West Ham
Jose Mourinho's Manchester United get underway later today. The red devils will be aiming to put their Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid behind them as quickly as possible, especially with the Old Trafford faithful behind them.
