Veteran midfielder Gareth Barry is set to undergo a medical at West Brom on Tuesday ahead of a permanent move from Everton. Birmingham City and Brighton are both hoping to lure former Swansea City striker Eder back to English football, while Watford goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis has agreed a deal to join CFR Cluj. Here's a full report of these transfer headlines:
West Brom closes in on Gareth Barry
Gareth Barry is set to formally join West Bromwich Albion for $1.31m, according to BBC Sport.
Barry is expected to sign a one-year contract at West Bromwich Albion with the option of another year. An ankle injury saw the Englishman miss Everton's opening EPL match against Stoke City last Saturday, but the problem is not expected to “complicate” any deal, and the defender could be fit to make his West Bromwich Albion debut this weekend at Burnley.
Gareth Barry, 36, made a total of 140 appearances for Everton since joining the club from Manchester City in 2014 and went on to sign a new contract at Everton in December 2016. Tony Pulis is keen on signing the experienced star as a replacement for departed skipper Darren Fletcher, who recently joined Stoke City on a free transfer.
Eder wanted by Birmingham City and Brighton
Premier League duo Birmingham City and Brighton have both made contact with Lille about a potential deal for Eder, according to Daily Mail. Both English clubs would rather land the Portuguese striker on loan while Lille is hoping to sell the striker in a $6.4m permanent deal this summer. The fee is not out of the “question” for either club, but it is not clear whether either would be willing to take a “gamble” on the striker who apparently failed to score in thirteen EPL appearances for the Swans.
Eder, 29, who famously netted Portugal's extra time winner against France in the finals of Euro 2016, managed to score 6 goals in thirty-one Ligue 1 outings last term for Lille, and the French club is now looking to sell the Portuguese striker before the summer window shuts.
Arlauskis joins CFR Cluj on a three-year deal
According to the Watford Observer, Giedrius Arlauskis has agreed to a three-year deal to join Romanian club CFR Cluj this summer. Giedrius Arlauskis still has two years remaining on his current contract at Watford Football Club, but it has been speculated that the 29-year-old and the club have mutually agreed to cancel the contract in order for him to leave the Premier League club this summer.
Giedrius Arlauskis is well down the pecking order at Watford and has made just 1 EPL start since joining the club from Steaua Bucharest back in 2015.
