Chelsea has won its second game after losing to Burnley in the first game of the season. It was a shock defeat that might cost them the title, but as it stands right now, Chelsea is returning to form even without some of its best players.
The match against Everton was expected to be a tough one, but not on the same difficulty level when compared to the game against Tottenham Hotspur.
In reality, however, going up against Everton this time around wasn’t increasingly challenging. The opponent sat back and allowed Chelsea to command the game, and that turned out bad for them.
Fabregas and Morata takes charge
The Blues wasted no time in the first half as they move to take a quick lead. Willian was lurking in and around the midfield like a hawk. Several times he took it to the Everton defenders who were finding it difficult to keep him locked down.
Kante was there as well, a player with an unlimited energy it might seem. He tends to find himself in the right positions most of the time, which makes it easier for the players up front.
Next up, Pedro, one of the best strikers to ever wear a Chelsea uniform.
He didn’t perform exceptionally well today, but he showed he only needs to get himself back into the groove of things.
The winners today were Alvaro Morata and Cesc Fabregas. Both men worked very hard, but Fabregas was the better player this time around. He lurked at the edge of the box quite often, while Morata made moves that had defenders thinking twice about their next action.
It didn’t take long for the first goal after Fabregas made a splendid run and pass to Morata, who quickly tried to slip it back but the ball bounced into the air. Morata immediately headed ahead of Fabregas in the box which made a single touch to put it in the net at the 27th minute.
An excellent goal for Fabregas and a great assist from Morata.
The next goal came in the 40th minute, and quite spectacularly too. The Everton defenders appear to have never watched the Chelsea vs. Burnley match. If they had done that, the team would have known how dangerous Morata is in the air.
Cesar Azpilicueta delivered a beautiful ball into the box, and Morata was right there to intercept with his head and send the ball into the back of the net.
Michy Batshuayi a bit reckless up front
Antonio Conte gave Batshuayi another chance to prove his worth in the second half. This is a talented player, but he seems tense. He’s so desperate to score a goal in the EPL that he fails to pass the ball when he should, and taking shots at goal when he shouldn’t.
Hopefully, he settles himself in upcoming games, preferably before Chelsea signs another striker. Then again, his time might have run out because the transfer window closes on Thursday, and Conte will no doubt sign new players before then.
