Beyonce is one proud Texas native and she's not ashamed to show it!
The multi-awarded singer is reportedly planning to take her support of her hometown to the next level by acquiring a share of its home team, the Houston Rockets.
Earlier this week, reports revealed that Beyonce is keen on buying an ownership stake in the team following a decision of its owner, Leslie Alexander, to sell the NBA franchise.
Beyonce in NBA?
On Tuesday, Bloomberg reported that Beyonce is considering to be part of her hometown's team in the NBA. According to the news outlet, the 35-year-old mother of three could be a great asset to interested parties.
Apparently, Beyonce's popularity could add a "superstar sizzle to any ownership group, likely helping the team with local and international marketing."
Many also consider the Lemonade singer as a good candidate to co-own the Houston Rockets, especially since she is one of the most influential celebrities to date.
The news site revealed that Beyonce currently ranks 150th out of more than 4000 celebrities. Many believe that her reputation in the industry could help boost the team as well.
It runs in the family
In case Beyonce's acquisition of the Houston Rockets did come to fruition, it will be the second time for her family to be part of the NBA.
It can be recalled that her husband JAY-Z brought a part of Brooklyn Nets for $4.5 million.
The rapper later sold his share after launching his sports agency, Roc Nation Sports.
Apparently, his involvement in such business could create a conflict in case he wants to represent professional basketball players in the NBA.
Houston Rockets bids goodbye to Leslie Alexander
Last month, Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander confirmed that he will end his 24-year tenure in the team.
The 73-year-old businessman is putting up the team for sale but no exact price has been revealed yet.
However, Patrick Rishe of Forbes estimated that the Houston Rockets could sell for $2 billion. Apparently, the team's star players are a huge factor in the increase of its value.
It can be recalled that Alexander bought the Houston Rockets for $85 million way back 1993.
The team won the NBA title in the first two seasons after Alexander took over.
Under his term, the team won 56.9 percent of their games making them the fifth-highest in the league.
"It's been my great joy and honor to own the Houston Rockets for the past 24 years. ... I'll always have a special place in my heart for the fans, partners, city officials and employees who care so deeply for this team," Alexander stated.
