Lakers sign KCP, Dedmon leaves the spurs, and Patterson joins the Thunder

As the hectic offseason is slowing down, NBA teams are now adding the final puzzle pieces for next season. On first glance, it seems as though the Western Conference becomes even stronger. Here are some updates on the NBA free agency scene:

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope leaves Detroit

It seems like the strong NBA Western Conference is about to get even stronger this offseason, as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope of the Detroit Pistons is reportedly going to the Los Angeles Lakers and making the East even weaker.

Per Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the Lakers have reached an agreement to a one-year 18 million dollar deal. Caldwell-Pope averaged 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists last year with the Pistons while shooting 42% from the field.

KCP, as he is known for in the NBA, will be the main scoring option for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. It is still unclear who will make up the first five for the Lakers but he will be playing with Brandon Ingram, Brook Lopez, Lonzo Ball, Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle. There have been also rumors of the Los Angeles Lakers wanting to add Rondo to the team, with KCP and probably Rondo, the Los Angeles Lakers are gearing toward trying to win next season while still saving cap space for the 2018 offseason.

Dewayne Dedmon joins the Atlanta Hawks

Everyone expected Dedmon to get paid this offseason but everyone still thought he would stay with the Spurs, but with a huge paycheck and an opportunity to be in a starting line-up it seems like he has decided to leave the Spurs. Shams Charania of The Vertical has reported that Dedmon has agreed to a two year 14 million dollar deal with the Atlanta Hawks that include a player option on the last year. Dedmon had career-high averages last year in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs with 5.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 0.8 blocks, and 0.5 steals while shooting 62.2% from the field (All of which are career highs). Dedmon will now have a bigger opportunity to showcase his talent as he gets a huge role improvement once he plays with Atlanta next season.

Patrick Patterson leaves Toronto

ESPN has reported that Patrick Patterson will be joining the Oklahoma City Thunder this offseason with a three year 16.4 million dollar deal. He will take the place of Taj Gibson as he leaves for Minnesota. He will likely fit more that Taj Gibson because he can stretch the floor with his threes and can make room for Westbrook and George to drive and kick on possessions. Patrick Patterson has NBA career averages of 7.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 45.9% from the field.
