The Nebraska Football team might be sliding down the rankings in the Big Ten when it comes to recruiting, but Mike Riley and company aren't letting that phase them. Plenty of offers are still going out and plenty of talented players are being asked to eventually become a Cornhusker. To that end, yet another of the country's top defensive players in the 2018 class has been offered a scholarship. This time around, the player is David Alston, an outside linebacker from the state of Minnesota. The player has apparently been in contact with the Huskers for a while but just recently received his official scholarship offer.

Getting more attention from teams like Nebraska football

Alston, despite being the number four player in the state of Minnesota, according to 247 Sports, does not have a ton of power five conference team offers. Schools like Iowa State, New Mexico, and Utah might not be the cream of the crop, the linebacker is also getting more attention from Big Ten schools of late. Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have all offered Alston alongside the Cornhuskers.

While Alston is just a 3-star rated linebacker at the moment, how he plays compared to the rest of the players in Minnesota and the attention he's getting will see him move up the ranks.

Sooner or later this young linebacker could be one of the better defenders the Nebraska Football team is going after in this class.

The Minnesota conundrum

One of the most interesting aspects of the recruitment of this player, is just how hard it's going to be to pull him away from Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are under new management.

P.J. Fleck is an energetic young coach who is certainly going to be pitching pride in the university and the state as part of his recruiting approach.

Most college coaches in this day and age are all about making sure they are keeping players that are within a radius that encompasses their home state from going elsewhere. Alston won't be the only test when it comes to whether Fleck can pull this off, but if the Nebraska football team can lure the linebacker away, it would be a big win for the Huskers.
