With the San Antonio Spurs up 2-0 in the series, the scene shifted to Memphis where the Grizzlies hosted Game 3 of their best-of-seven affair on Saturday night. The two teams battled back and forth throughout the contest with incredible performances from Kawhi Leonard and Mike Conley. When it came down to it, it was big man Marc Gasol who made one of the biggest shots of the night to help grab the victory for his team.
Here's a look at how Memphis won this NBA Playoffs game in overtime on Saturday evening.
Conley vs. Leonard, Gasol is clutch
The two respective stars for Memphis and San Antonio came out to play in their third meeting. For the game, Mike Conley shot 13-for-23 and ended up with 35 points in 42 minutes of play. He also had eight assists and grabbed nine rebounds. Leonard put in an amazing night's work, ending up with 43 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. The Spurs star took 30 shots on the night and hit 14, but half of those came from beyond the three-point arc.
Marc Gasol also came up big for the home team.
The big man finished with a double-double of 12 rebounds and 16 points. However, no shot was bigger than his shot in the final seconds of the overtime session. Gasol made a move towards the basket and then flipped up a shot from the lane which went in. With just 0.7 seconds remaining, the Spurs were unable to hit a Hail Mary shot they throw about three-quarters down the quart. With that came a Grizzlies win.
Looking at the box score, one would think Memphis should have lost this one. As a team, they had 22 turnovers while the Spurs had just nine all night. However, the Grizzlies shot 46.3 percent from the floor and outrebounded their opponents 51-37. In addition to all of that, they kept fighting thanks to Conley, and a heroic last second shot in OT from Gasol.
On the losing side, Tony Parker also came up with 22 points to help his team. Meanwhile, big man LaMarcus Aldridge had just 13. Pau Gasol came off the bench to haul down 11 rebounds and score eight points in the loss.
When do they play again?
The Spurs and Grizzlies will meet again in Memphis for Game 4 of their NBA Playoffs matchup. That's scheduled to take place on Tuesday night starting at a time to be determined. The telecast has also yet to be announced for a station, but with most games, the coverage has been presented via ESPN, TNT, or NBA TV.
There will also be a Game 5 in the best-of-seven series, and that will be back in San Antonio. It's slated for this coming Thursday night, with the time nad telecast channel still to be announced.
