Former Major League Baseball player, Otis Nixon, was seen leaving his Woodstock, Ga. home on the morning of April 8, 2017. The last time anyone saw the 58-year-old, he was driving a 2011 gray Range Rover.
According to WSB-TV, Nixon was driving to a golf course nearby wearing “a black long sleeve-shirt, black sweatpants and a black baseball cap, with black Adidas shoes with white stripes,” but he never made it for tee time. Nixon’s girlfriend called the Woodstock Police Department on Sunday afternoon to report that he was missing. Authorities had asked the public as well as the media to help locate this popular former athlete.
Nixon’s career history
Otis Nixon played for several different teams during his 17-year career as a Major League Baseball player. According to the New York Post, “Nixon was a longtime switch-hitting outfielder, best known for his two stints with the Braves. He came up with the Yankees, playing his first 13 games with the Bombers in 1983, while also spending time with the Indians, Expos, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Dodgers and Twins.” Even though Nixon scored 878 runs, and his batting average was .270, he was never asked to play in an All-Star Game. He also played for the Atlanta Braves starting in 1991, and according to the AJC, “was a key player in the worst-to-first season."
Nixon’s drug abuse history
While Nixon was playing for the Atlanta Braves, he was suspended in 1991.
A drug test showed that there was cocaine in his system, which ended up causing him to not be able to play in the World Series that year. Throughout the years, Nixon had a few encounters with the police. He has been found in possession of drugs, as well as under the influence of drugs. According to the New York Post, “Nixon retired after the 1999 season, and was last in the headlines in 2013, when he was arrested for possession of crack cocaine.” Police say that they retrieved another pipe in Nixon’s truck, but Nixon claimed that the pipe belonged to his son.
