The Georgia Bulldogs had their first game of the 2017 season on Saturday night against the Appalachian State Mountaineers at Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA. Unfortunately, sophomore quarterback Jacob Eason acquired some kind of a leg injury during the first quarter. While everyone was concerned, the game continued. When the accident first occurred, Eason tried to stay in the game. Sources say that it was apparent that Eason was injured enough that he needed to be out for the next play. Eason was out for the remainder of the game. Will Eason’s injury cause him to be benched for a few games?
Only time will tell.
Eason’s college life
Jacob Eason enrolled early at the University of Georgia in 2016. After relieving Greyson Lambert with 131 passing yards, and throwing his first touchdown, Eason had his first career start against Nicholls State. During his first start with the Georgia Bulldogs, Eason completed 11 of 20 passes, which included a touchdown. He has been recorded for 16 touchdowns and 2,434 yards so far during his college career. While this is only the start of his second year, Eason never fails to deliver while on the field.
Head coach is hopeful that Eason will return soon
At halftime, head coach Kirby Smart said Eason, "got a little bit of a knee sprain." He said, "We think he could be back as early as possible.
We don't know when that (would be)." Eason did not want to miss out on the first game of the season, but he knew his team was in good hands. Jake Fromm replaced Eason in the first quarter, and he was ready to pick up where Eason had left off. He gave his teammates the drive they needed to pull off a win. The first 2 passes of his career were complete, with one ending with a first down.
Fromm completed the first half 8-for-12 for 109 yards. At halftime, Fromm led the Bulldogs to a 21-0 lead over the Mountaineers. The final score for Saturday’s game was 31-10. While fans may have been skeptical, Fromm showed that he has learned during the time that he watched and listened to Eason as well as the coaching staff.
There are conflicting reports on when Eason will return to the field from his injury. One thing is certain, Fromm will be starting quarterback against Notre Dame this Saturday, September 9th at 7:30 pm ET on NBC. Hopefully, Fromm will be able to lead the Georgia Bulldogs to their second win this season. Coaches, teammates, and fans are all hoping for a speedy recovery for the injured quarterback.
