Floyd Mayweather says he is coming out of retirement just to fight Conor McGregor. This is no surprise to Mayweather's fans because the 40-year-old boxer has retired and come out of retirement before. Once he came out of a 21-month retirement. Now that he is willing to come out again after retiring in 2015.
Mayweather spoke out at an event in Liverpool, England last Friday. He said he was going to officially unretire for only one more fight. He wants to get in the boxing room again to fight Conor McGregor.
Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. whose real name is Floyd Joy Sinclair, is a former professional boxer who competed in the boxing ring from 1996 to 2015.
The five-division world champion currently works as a boxing promoter. The 40-year-old champion believes he still has what it takes to beat McGregor.
Mayweather-McGregor fight
People have been talking about a Mayweather-McGregor fight for many months. Mayweather wants to fight the MMA champion and has told him to shut up and sign the contract. Boxing fans would love to see Mayweather and McGregor fight, but they think it would be more of a publicity stunt than a real fight. The fight will definitely bring in a great number of people who will show up for the event just to see Mayweather fight one more time.
Mayweather told ESPN last week that he really doesn't know if the fight will happen with McGregor or not, but he wants it to take place as early as June of this year.
Mayweather and McGregor have something in common. Both of them are trash-talkers. Mayweather usually boasts of his record of 49-0.
What McGregor is saying
Conor McGregor has not retired, but he is taking a break from boxing while he is waiting for the birth of his first child in May. The last time he fought was last November when he won the UFC lightweight title by knocking out Eddie Alvarez.
McGregor wants to fight Mayweather just as badly as Mayweather wants to fight him. In fact, he has demanded a guaranteed $100 million to get in the ring with Mayweather. The 28-year-old boxer is under an exclusive UFC contract. UFC President Dana White publicly offered Mayweather and McGregor $25 million to fight each other. Even so, White said he doubts if a fight between the two men will ever happen.
