For months now, undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC superstar Conor McGregor have been doing a lot of talking about fighting each other. However, they are no closer to fighting now than they were before they started talking. ESPN reported that Mayweather said the time for talking is over with. Floyd said he will come out of retirement to fight Conor but he needs McGregor to stop talking and just sign the contract.
Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor is 21-3 in MMA and is 9-1 in the UFC. He has beaten everyone put in front of him, including winning the rematch against Nate Diaz, avenging the only blemish on his record.
After he beat Eddie Alvarez in November 2016, McGregor pointed out that he is the biggest star in the UFC and wanted to be paid like it. The last four UFC pay-per-view events that Conor headlined had a buy rate of 1.3 million wth UFC 205 making a reported $17.7 million at the gate alone. McGregor and Ronda Rousey are the two highest paid MMA fighters in history, each paid $3 million. After Conor said he wanted to make more money, he got his boxing license and challenged Floyd Mayweather. The problem is that McGregor said he wants to fight Mayweather but Conor wants $100 million for the fight.
Floyd Mayweather
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has generated over 19 million pay-per-view buys over his boxing career and has trumped all other boxers by generating $1.3 billion in revenue from his fights.
Floyd was paid over $100 million for fighting Manny Pacquiao. Because Mayweather makes so much money to fight, Conor McGregor seems to think he also deserves the same pay. When talking about the pay, Mayweather said he was paid less when Arturo Gatti was the bigger money making star. He said he was paid less when he fought Oscar De La Hoya.
He said that if Conor really wants to fight him, he needs to understand that Mayweather is the money man right now and he can beat him and become that man for the next big fight. At the end of the day, Floyd Mayweather said that Conor McGregor needs to stop talking about the money and just sign the contract with the UFC if he wants this fight to happen.
