The Redskins have had no shortage of problems in the NFL offseason. First Kirk Cousins was involved in a contract dispute that eventually resulted in a franchise tag for the star quarterback. Then general manager Scot McCloughan was fired after his issues with alcohol were revealed by someone within the organization. In the aftermath, team president Bruce Allen was blamed for many of the problems there.
washington will now need to search for a new general manager willing to work for a dysfunctional organization. The problems didn't end there. The Redskins didn't even talk with defensive tackle Chris Baker, who was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now it looks like another defensive player will be leaving the organization.
Departure of Duke Ihenacho.
The strong safety for Washington has played his last three seasons with the team. In both of his first two years with the Redskins, Ihenacho was placed on injured reserve. In 2016, Ihenacho remained healthy and had a relatively productive season for Washington.
But according to Duke, it doesn't look like the Redskins are interested in retaining his services.
This tweet is in stark contrast to Chris Baker's feelings on the subject. Baker was "hurt" that the Redskins, who played for the team from 2011-2016, didn't even make him an offer. Ihenacho's time in Washington was shorter, but it appears that he will now look for another team.
Possible Destinations for Duke?
Ihenacho does have an ideal free agent destination and he posted it on Twitter. The safety would like to head back to Los Angeles, and play in the area that he calls home.
Both the Rams and the Chargers could use a player like Ihenacho who attacks the ball, but neither team has a pressing need for a safety.
Duke might have to be more open to playing anywhere than focusing solely on Los Angeles.
A possible destination for Ihenacho would be Buffalo, where Corey Graham was a cap casualty and Aaron Williams was released. The Bills did sign safety Micah Hyde, but they desperately need another quality player at the safety position.
