When all the fall favorites have gone on hiatus, CBS has exciting dramas set with the return of drama “Instinct,” the final season premiere of “Elementary,” and the brand new adventure show “Blood & Treasure.” Holmes and Watson will be returning to New York after a stint consulting for Scotland Yard, while Dylan Reinhart returns to work solving cases with his detective partner. “Blood & Treasure” will spice up the summer with some action-adventure similar to that of Indiana Jones.
Summer crime dramas return
“Elementary” follows the modern day adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) as he works as a consultant for the New York Police under the lead of Captain Gregson (Aidan Quinn).
Holmes works alongside ex-surgeon and sober companion Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) who later becomes his partner and closest friend. The duo has experienced several changes over the course of six seasons as they've taken on dangerous criminals and faced many challenges in their relationship. "Elementary" Season 6 left off with them facing their biggest challenge yet when Holmes took the blame for murder to protect Watson and fled to England.
Watson chose to stay with Holmes and the two became consultants for Scotland Yard. Season 7 will pick up with the two still in London and unable to return to New York, thanks to Odin Reichenbach, who lies in wait. When a friend is gravely injured, they're forced to decide if they're willing to risk Holmes possibly being imprisoned to return.
CBS has released a few photos to tease what's in store from the premiere, which focuses on Holmes and Watson, who have reunited with Detective Bell, the three at a crime scene, and some investigative work. The final season will premiere on May 23 and will consist of 13 episodes.
“Instinct” returns on June 16 and will be keeping its Sunday night time slot it had during season one.
The crime drama follows Dr. Dylan Reinhart as he works as a consultant for the NYPD alongside Detective Lizzie Needham and is based on the book "Murder Games" by James Patterson. Dylan is an author, professor, and is ex-CIA with a special skill to understand the human psyche which helps Lizzie solve some unusual cases.
"Instinct" stars Alan Cumming as Dylan, Bojana Novakovic as Lizzie, with Daniel Ings as Dylan's husband Andy, Naveen Andrews as Dylan's old friend Julian, and Sharon Leal as Lizzie's lieutenant, Jasmine Gooden.
The second season premiere picks up with Dylan and Lizzie taking up a case to find the Sleeping Beauty Killer after Dylan is officially reinstated.
New adventure series
New summer show “Blood & Treasure” stars Matt Barr and Sofia Pernas and will follow an antiquities dealer and an art thief as they join forces to chase after a known thief/terrorist. Danny McNamara is an antiquities dealer who is also a former FBI agent, while Lexi Vaziri is an art thief who is haunted by the death of her father which she blames Danny for. The two are drawn together after Danny's mentor Dr. Anna Castillo is kidnapped by Karim Farouk. Their adventures will also find them meeting and working with a variety of people, including arms dealer Aiden Shaw, Simon Hardwick, who is an expert in getting pilfered artifacts, and Danny's childhood friend Father Chuck.
The two will also come up against an Interpol agent who is also after Karim and may not necessarily agree with their tactics. Adding to their adventure is a 2,000-year-old battle described in the press release as being a battle for the cradle of civilization. "Blood & Treasure" will begin on May 21 with a two-hour premiere at 9 ET/PT and then it will move to its regular time at 10 ET/PT on May 28.
