"Game of Thrones" season 8 episode 1 titled "Winterfell" has given fans a lot to talk about. And now, a new theory has emerged on Reddit proposing a rather unexpected, bittersweet, if not tragic, ending to "Game of Thrones."

This theory, courtesy of the Reddit user u/nosefouratoo, claims that the Night King and Cersei are just red herrings and that the show's ultimate conflict is the one between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. Let's explain.

Warning: Potential spoilers for "Game of Thrones" season 8 ahead.

How Game of Thrones season 8 premiere hinted at Jon and Daenerys conflict

"Game of Thrones" season 8 episode 1 obviously set the stage for a conflict between Jon Snow and Daenerys with Jon learning the truth that he is, in fact, Aegon Targaryen, heir to the Iron Throne.

This theory explains how various characters could help divide them even further.

  • Tyrion and Varys: And while these two are Daenerys' top advisors, it's no secret that they have expressed concerns about her leadership style, especially after she burned the Tarlys. "You need to find the way to make her listen," Varys said to Tyrion at the end of season 7, worrying that she'll become just like her father, the Mad King. All in all, both Varys and Tyrion are very much aware of their queen's worst impulses. In "Game of Thrones" season 8 episode 2 promo video, we hear a couple of interesting tidbits including Daenerys bringing up Jaime killing her father, and a shot of Daenerys walking away angrily from Tyrion. Redditor theorizes that Dany will most likely imprison Jaime which would drive a further wedge between her and Tyrion. And when Tyrion learns about Jon's true identity, he will probably switch to his side, and so will Varys.
  • Sam: Samwell Tarly has always been Jon Snow's biggest supporter, and in the last episode, not only was he the one to tell Jon about his heritage, but he also planted the idea in Jon's head that he should rule.
  • Sansa and Arya: The Stark sisters seem to have resolved whatever conflict they might have had in season 7 and when they find out who Jon truly is, there's no doubt that they will stand behind him, just like the Northern and the Vale forces.

How Daenerys will react to the news about Jon Snow's true identity

According to u/nosefouratoo, Daenerys will not take the news about Jon Snow's true identity lightly.

In fact, she will be quite angry and will even go as far as to call him a traitor. Jon will then realize that Daenerys is just yet another ruler who puts power lust in front of all else, and will make a claim to the Iron Throne in order to unite the realm.

Redditor goes on to suggest that something will happen right before the Battle against the Army of the Dead, which would permanently damage their relationship and set up the conflict between the two.

Dance of the Dragons 2.0 in 'GoT' season 8

The theory says that it's entirely possible that Rhaegal decides to bind himself to Jon, which could lead to the Dance of the Dragons 2.0 in "Game of Thrones" season 8.

According to u/nosefouratoo, the Night King will be defeated in episode 3. As for Cersei, Redditor thinks that either Jaime or Arya wearing Jaime's face will kill her in episode 4.

This will cause the remaining Lannister forces as well as the Golden Company to side with Jon in the Dance of the Dragons 2.0, which will take place in episode 5. It's entirely that both Jon and Daenerys will die in this episode.

The final episode will focus on the aftermath, reconstruction, and reflection, There could even be a time jump. According to u/nosefouratoo, "Game of Thrones" ends with an election being held.

I don't know about you, but this would be one hell of a twist, and definitely worthy of "Game of Thrones."
