“Robin Hood” is an American adventure film based on the legendary story of the English outlaw Robin Hood. The latest version of the outlaw tale is directed by Otto Bathurst, and the script is written by Ben Chandler and David James Kelly.

The flick was released on November 21, 2018, by Lionsgate. The flick stars Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Eve Hewson, and Jamie Dornan.

Otto Bathurst fails as a director

It is the first feature film helmed by Otto Bathurst who is better known for his work on BBC series “Criminal Justice” and “Five Days.” His latest work as a director, “Robin Hood” has generated a lot of negative reviews and derided for lack of a storyline.

A modern reboot of an epic story

The film is more of a reboot of the Robin Hood myth with a twist. Robin of Loxley is a scarred and tough Crusader who has some battles under his belt. He is accompanied by his Moorish commander (Jamie Foxx).

After returning from his overseas stint, Robin Hood finds his property looted and had to once again venture out on another crusade against a tyrannical representative of the state and the church.

The film lacks the finesse of other Movies of its genre. Robin Hood is the fabled outlaw who robbed the rich and gave to the poor.

However, after watching the flick, the audience felt robbed and did not have anything to carry back.

There are some excellent moments also, and Mendelsohn and Abrahams who were in the side of the oppressors acted reasonably well. Comparing it with the previous version of the outlaw, which had a fair sprinkling of comedy, the modern rendition by Otto Bathurst features a pretty serious and almost indigestible Robin.

If you are a puritan, you will not watch the latest version of Robin Hood. The makers have ended up making a modern version of the kid’s tale.

The action sequence looks artificial with arrows zinging like a bullet and destroying the targets. The cast seems fresh though we have seen Taron Egerton in the "Kingsman: The Secret Service." Eve Hewson is sensual and feisty and has everything to make her a future star.

Box-office collections:

However, the movie did not do well at the box-office, The Bussiness Insider wrote "It made just $14 million over the five-day holiday at the box office. It is the biggest bomb of 2018 for a movie with a budget of over $90 million."

The New Zealand Herald wrote, "The cast might sound impressive, but the film itself is a red hot mess according to critics.

Released in cinemas last week, Robin Hood has been universally panned and currently has a 13 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes."
