Longtime viewers of "The Young and the Restless" have been outraged over recent developments on the daytime drama. Paul is being written out. Victor will be leaving town and could also be Jack's brother. Nikki and her spouse had an open relationship, Billy and Victoria were trashed while Phyllis and Mr. Abbott stayed intact. New head writer Mal Young is showing complete disregard for history or for fans who have watched "Y&R" for decades. Soap Dirt has now uncovered the reason things in Genoa City are getting so confusing. The Bell family has sold the show, lock, stock, and barrel - to CBS.
Y&R ratings drop with the Bell family
Soap Dirt reports that Soaps She Knows revealed that, in 2017, CBS quietly acquired the program that has run on their network for 45 years. From that point, the ratings for "The Young and the Restless" dropped about 18 percent. Also in 2017, Mal Young was promoted to head writer and executive producer. He promised drama, intrigue, edge-of-your-seat can't miss episodes, and cliffhanger Fridays. Over time, however, the show has become a disappointment for longtime fans.
Soap Dirt points out that now that the Bell family is no longer in control, Mal Young and CBS have free reign to trash the history that has been 45 years in the making. This at least gives puzzled viewers some answers for the change in direction in Genoa City.
Celeb Dirty Laundry indicates that the Rosales family will be front and center in coming weeks. This will cause more anger from viewers because it comes at the expense of fan favorite Doug Davidson being fired and popular actor Eric Braeden taking a hiatus from "Y&R."
Mal Young's promotions have devalued Y&R
CBS had previously only been the distributor of "The Young and the Restless" but now they are sole owners of the show.
Fans are angered that the network is allowing Mal Young to trash the show they have loved for so long. Young's promotions have devalued "Y&R" and there may be no turning back. Change is a part of life and diversity is always in order, but the powers that be did not have to disrespect Doug Davidson, in such a heinous way, to do it.
The growing Rosales family could have come on board and Rey worked alongside Paul or chief Williams could have been given a different assignment. Instead "Y&R" exits decided to ease Paul out and then without warning have Rey sitting in his chair. Be on the lookout for updated spoilers that will continue to address this mess with Mal Young and CBS. Ratings are important and if they continue to decrease the show may be canceled as other soaps have been so stay tuned.
