The latest updates and spoilers for the live-action "Captain Marvel" movie reveal details of the Skrulls future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly revealed the several images of the film featuring Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, a young Nick Fury, the arrival of the Skrulls, and more.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told EW (via Digital Spy) the real reason why Nick Fury called in Carol Danvers during the events of "Avengers: Infinity War." The film will take place in the 90's as Carol returns to earth to stop a Skrull invasion.

Mar-Vell and his team, Starforce, will accompany Carol on her mission to save the planet.

'Secret Invasion' teased for phase 4

The Skrulls will be Carol's primary antagonist in the "Captain Marvel" movie as they have been at war with the Kree for centuries similar to the Marvel comics. They are led by Talos as they used their shapeshifting abilities to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. and gather data about "Project: Pegasus."

Screen Rant theorized that Skrulls will have a big presence in the MCU's future hinting that they will around in phase 4. This led to the speculation that Marvel Studios might adopt the popular comic book story arc, "Secret Invasion."

In the comics, the "Secret Invasion" revolves around the Skrulls attempt to slowly conquer earth by manipulating its heroes and villains into fighting each other.

The Skrulls used their mistrust from one another to create friction and paranoia. The plans were orchestrated by their leader, Queen Veranke, as she leads her army to take over the planet and used the powers of the heroes and villains to create an army of Super Skrulls.

Nick Fury's plan in 'Avengers 4'

According to Digital Spy, Kevin Feige stated that Nick called in Carol to come back home because she is considered one of the most powerful beings out there that could possibly match Thanos's power.

"She is more powerful than any character we've introduced thus far, Feige told EW. "So that alone tells you that there's a reason Nick hit that button at the end when he realized that they were up against something far bigger than they had ever been up against before."

Nick sent an emergency distress call from space to reach Carol before he was disintegrated by Thanos in "Infinity Wars's" post-credit scene.

She will join the surviving MCU heroes on their last attempt to save the universe from the power of the Infinity Stones. It is rumored that the first teasers for "Captain Marvel" and "Avengers 4" will premiere in November.
