The latest updates and spoilers for "Runaways" Season 2 reveal its official release date and connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Executive producer Stephanie Savage told TV Line in an interview that the show will have various events related to the MCU movies and they will be carried out during the course of their adventures.

The live-action "Runaways" TV series focuses on a group of teenagers who discovered that their parents are founders of a cult-like organization called "The Pride." They have witnessed their parents sacrificing several kids and they are horrified at what they have done.

The group had no choice but to stop them as they search for clues and hidden secrets.

Connecting to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

According to TV Line, showrunner Stephanie Savage explained that the sophomore season of "Runaways" will leave several "breadcrumbs" that will connect the show to the events of the MCU films. The first season of the show was focused on the characters and they wanted to the story to be self-contained, so audiences and comic book fans did not see any references from the past movies.

Now, it seems that the showrunners decided to add small and subtle details from the Marvel movies proving that they are part of the MCU similar to "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Inhumans," and the Netflix Marvel shows.

Season two's plot will take place after the first season finale as Alex Wilder and his friends (Nico Minoru, Karolina Dean, Chase Stein, Gertrude Yorkes, and Molly Hernandez) are on the run after their parents framed them for murder.

Savage and co-showrunner Josh Schwartz, stated that they have left their luxurious homes and lifestyle, and are now struggling to survive on their own.

The kids take shelter at an "infamous hostel" and will treat it as their base of operations. There are also rumors that the show will crossover with another Marvel hit series, "Cloak And Dagger."

Release date set on December 21

According to Deadline, "Runaways" season 2 is set to premiere on December 21 and Hulu will take a page from Netflix as they will drop all 12 episodes at the same time.

Cast member Allegra Acosta posted a teaser trailer for season 2 featuring her other co-stars. The video sees the kids sending a small message to the audience, promoting the show and its release on Hulu. Actress Ariela Barer previously stated in a Tumblr post that she wants to see her character, Gert, die on the show and get resurrected.

"Gert dying as long as I can come back to life like she does in the comics," Ariela wrote. "That plot line is so beautiful and an amazing exploration of Gert and Chase’s relationship."
