Suicide was the cause of death for two Celebrities in one week. The public was shocked to hear the news about both celebrities just three days apart. Hanging was the cause of death in both cases.

Anthony Bourdain

Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room by his close friend, French chef Eric Ripert. CNN reported the news on Friday morning (June 8) about the award-winning star's death. Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his popular show. Many people have watched Bourdain's show "Parts Unknown" that took him to all places as he explored the eating habits of different cultures.

Bourdain brought places to his television audience who might not ever travel there. He shared fascinating views about food, travel, and the culture of different places. The chef's CNN show began its 11th season last month.

The well-known chef took his own life by hanging in the Le Chambard hotel in Kaysersberg-Vignoble. His death was quite similar to the death of fashion designer Kate Spade, who died three days earlier. Bourdain was divorced twice, and he leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter, Ariane, whom he had with his second wife Ottavia Busia.

Kate Spade

The fashion world and the public were shocked on Tuesday, June 5, when news came out that Kate Spade hanged herself with a red scarf attached to a doorknob in her Manhattan apartment.

The 55-year-old well-known designer of fashionable handbags hadn't been buried before the news came out about Bourdain's death.

Elyuce Arons said she had discussed celebrity suicides with her friend in the past because Kate was obsessed with the suicide of actor Robin Williams, who killed himself on August 11, 2014, by using a belt around his neck.

Kate had watched news reports of Williams' death over and over again. Spade leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade.

About suicide

Suicides in the United States have been on the rise since 1999, according to figures from a government study that were released this week after the two suicides. Close to 45,000 Americans died by suicide in 2016. That number is more than those who died in car accidents or from opioid overdoses. At this rate, the prediction is that at least 16 out of every 100,000 Americans will take their own life.

Because of the recent deaths of the two celebrities this week, the warning signs are being shared.

Friends and colleagues of Bourdain and Spade are speaking out and pleading with the public to seek medical help if they become depressed and have suicidal tendencies.

Medical personnel and authorities are making the same plea. They are urging everyone with thoughts of suicide to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 for help.
