One of the highlights of "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" was the movie bringing back Jeff Goldblum and his character of Ian Malcolm, who had a huge role in the first two Movies in the "jurassic park" franchise. However, according to producer Colin Trevorrow, the series is not finished yet with the characters from the original trilogy of movies. While Sam Neill got a return in the third movie, Trevorrow still feels that Laura Dern's character of Ellie Sattler never got a chance to have her moment to shine, and there are more that Trevorrow wants to bring back in his third movie.

Laura Dern in 'Jurassic Park'

Laura Dern played the character of Dr. Ellie Sattler, a paleobotanist, who was brought to the Jurassic Park theme park along with paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant and chaos theorist Ian Malcolm. They were to watch the dinosaurs that industrialist John Hammond had cloned and created for his amusement park.

All three of those invited guests made it out of "Jurassic Park" alive, but Laura Dern only briefly showed up in "Jurassic Park III," which focused mostly on the returning Sam Neill character. Goldblum's character was a great supporting character in the first movie and was the lead in "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" in 1997.

Trevorrow was on the MTV series "Seen It, Spill It," and said that he wanted to give Laura Dern her own movie. He said that was something the new trilogy considers important and is why they spotlighted Goldblum in the most recent film as well, to keep everything in the same world.

The future of Jurassic World

Colin Trevorrow said that he will be very disappointed if he is not able to give Laura Dern and her character the spotlight she deserves. He also said that he will not rule out a return of characters from the original "Jurassic Park" movies, including Dern's doctor and maybe even Sam Neill's character again.

Dern has been prolific lately, with appearances in "Twin Peaks: The Return," "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" and "Big Little Lies."

As for "Jurassic World," it continues to roll along strong.

"Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" opened with a $148.02 million opening weekend domestically and has already made $797.6 million worldwide in its release. That is huge and should grow even more.

The first "Jurassic World" movie finished with $652.2 million domestically (sixth best all-time) and $1.6 billion worldwide (fifth best all-time). "Jurassic World 3" comes out on June 11, 2021.
