Surprises and sneak peek presentations continue to arrive at the CineEurope 2018 event. The latest involves Marvel Studios' 2019 film, "Captain Marvel," as footage was shown with regards to the movie. It will be a big part of the "Phase 3" schedule and also provide a good backstory to one of the pivotal characters in "Avengers 4" next year. While details are scarce, it has fans buzzing about the possibilities for a trailer in the future.

Featurette footage is shown

According to the ComicBook website, a Twitter user who has reportedly been attending CineEurope all week checked in with regard to "Captain Marvel." The individual said that a "featurette" was shown during the presentation.

As far as what sort of "Captain Marvel" footage was shown, the details are scarce so far. The website mentions that a featurette typically includes concept art, cast and crew interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and other movie details.

In addition, it was mentioned the female superhero "is about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe." Those comments were made by a currently unnamed cast or crew member that appeared during the footage. However, it certainly makes sense, based on other Disney films, including the newest Star Wars Movies.

In those films, a female hero named Rey is considered one of the main protagonists. Captain Marvel could lead the way into the next phase of Marvel films.

Movie trailer may have been shown

As the ComicBook website mentions, another Twitter user sent out their excited message about what they witnessed at CineEurope 2018. That particular user's tweet was written in another language bug a translation suggests, "trailer Captain Marvel has been exhibited" at the CineEurope.

It's unknown if an official movie trailer was shown. However, Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Marvel Studios' chief Kevin Feige was on hand at CineEurope for the presentation.

During his time there, footage was unveiled from the upcoming Marvel flick "Ant-Man and the Wasp," as well as from next year's "Avengers 4" and "Captain Marvel" films. The reports are saying that fans shouldn't get too excited about seeing a "Captain Marvel" trailer show up anytime soon, as "Ant-Man and The Wasp" promotions will take priority. In addition, Marvel won't have a Hall H presentation at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. In the past, they have presented upcoming movie trailers during these presentations.

Captain Marvel's major role

Disney and Marvel Studios will be hoping for another major success in their lineup of films. "Black Panther" became a huge success, with African American actors and actresses in the majority of lead roles.

The company is hoping that this first solo female superhero film will also be a success at the box office. The upcoming movie will star Academy Award winner Brie Larson in the title superhero role. Captain Marvel will tell the story of Carol Danvers, a woman who becomes Captain Marvel as Earth is caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle.

The Marvel comic book-based movie will also bring back Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." star Clark Gregg will reprise his role as Phil Coulson. Other actors in the film include Djimon Hounsou, Gemma Chan, Ben Mendelsohn, and Jude Law.

The movie is set in the 1990s, giving fans the backstory of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, including her involvement with S.H.I.E.L.D., and ultimately, the Avengers.

Fans who stayed until the end of the "Avengers: Infinity War" film saw an interesting reference made which will tie things together. That makes this look like another must-see film on the list of Marvel releases. The "Captain Marvel" movie will release to theaters in March 2019, just a few months ahead of the anticipated "Avengers 4" film.
