Tributes have been pouring in for 69-old actress Margot Kidder who died in her sleep. Her manager Camilla Fluxman broke the news of her death but did not give details on the cause of death. Twitter affectionately mourned the actress who is famous for her Lois Lane role in the film Superman.

Excellent on the screen

DC Comics, creators of Superman, appreciated her for the role, that so many people came to identify her with, in the 70s and 80s. The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, founded after the passing of Christopher Reeve, who played alongside Kidder in Superman, said the passing of Kidder was saddening and said that her light had shone brightly.

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill said Kidder was excellent on the screen and equally kind and caring off of it.

Kidder, who was born in Canada, started her career in her 20s. She has featured in more than 70 TV Shows and movies. She won an Emmy Award for TV series "The Haunting Hour." Her other prominent films include "The Amityville Horror" and "The Great Waldo Pepper."

After a 1990 car crash, the actress was forced to take a break from her career for two years which led to her being bankrupt. She slipped into a mental breakdown in 1996 after a computer virus made her lose her files which included a book she was writing. Police found her on the streets after going missing for four days. She was later to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Played her part in the society

Unlike most Celebrities who prefer to hide their conditions, Kidder came out publicly about her disorder and promoted mental health awareness. She helped fight the stigma surrounding bipolar people. Actress Mayim Bialik tweeted that Kidder’s courage and openness about her struggles was proof of her strong character, and her contribution to the mental health community was appreciated.

Kidder was also not one to be left out on the political front. She strongly voiced her objections to the Gulf War. In 2011, Kidder was arrested among other environmental activists for protesting on the White House sidewalk against the Keystone XL pipeline. Democrat Bernie Sanders was her choice of candidate in the 2016 American presidential election.

Her fiery political stand was echoed by her nephew Orion Kidder who went all out on comedian Roseanne Barr when she tweeted her message of condolence, reminding her the Margot loathed Barr’s support for Trump.

The actress acquired American citizenship in 2005 and settled in Montana. Blasting News sends their condolences to the family during these trying times.
