Gillian Flynn shocked audiences around the world with the film adaptation of her Book “Gone Girl,” but she isn’t done just yet. It seems that we can expect even more twists from the author as another one of her novels is coming to the small screen. Based on Flynn’s 2006 novel “Sharp Objects,” HBO will produce an eight-episode series that is set to premiere on the network in the near future. The critically-acclaimed book has built up quite the fan base within the book community since its release, and it’s expected that the author and director of the series have high hopes for the HBO adaptation.
Amy Adams will star as the protagonist
HBO officially confirmed that the network was picking up an eight-episode series order for the show in early 2016. Amy Adams is set to portray the main character whose story the series will follow, and it’s all systems go with “Big Little Lies” director Jean-Marc Vallée set to direct all eight episodes. While we’re not sure how closely the series will follow the exact storyline portrayed throughout the book, it’s a fairly good assumption that the narrative will stay true to the dark themes that are showcased throughout the novel. This is further consolidated by the news that Gillian Flynn will co-write the series with Marti Noxon who has previously worked on shows such as “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” a report by IndieWire.com reveals.
“Sharp Objects” follows the story of reporter Camille Preaker as she returns to her hometown to explore the murders of two young girls. In returning to her hometown, she’s faced with having to confront her neurotic, controlling mother and her half-sister who is not at all who she seems. In her quest to discover the truth behind the murders of the two preteens, Camille must confront her dark past and come to terms with the secrets of her own family.
The book, which was published by Broadway Books, gained quite a lot of attention for its psychological puzzle of a narrative. In typical fashion of the author, the book is full of disturbing twists that will keep readers glued to each and every page.
The series will premiere July 8th on HBO
In a recent confirmation, HBO has now decided on a premiere date for the first episode of the limited series.
Exclusive to the network, the series – which is being produced by Entertainment One and Blumhouse Television - will make its first appearance on July 8, 9 pm. Along with featuring the likes of Amy Adams, the cast will also include names such as “House Of Cards” star Patricia Clarkson.
Gillian Flynn has created quite an intense fan base for her works which are known to be raw, emotive, and utterly thrilling. By the looks of the trailers that have been released for the series already, we’re in for yet another wild ride.
