Very well know Mexican actor/director Eugenio Derbez stars alongside Anna Faris in this light-hearted and comedic take on 1987 original "Overboard."
Eugenio Derbez has been a busy man making sure his name becomes well-known in the Hollywood industry. As an already well-known actor and comedian in the Latin America film community, he has been working hard and making multiple films in recent years.
Eugenio Derbez moving up in the Hollywood world
With other Movies under his belt, like "Instructions not included" and "How to be a Latin lover," audiences who enjoyed those can't wait to watch the new spin on the classic 80s film.
Often, remakes are enormous gambles since you have many original fans expecting to be impressed and a new generation of viewers judging with fresh eyes. However, "Overboard" has managed to impress new and old audiences making $15 million at the box office during its opening weekend. With a steady increase from his previous films, "Instructions not included" at $7 million and "How to be a Latin lover," making $12 million, "Overboard" is a success.
Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris add their twist on the remake of 'Overboard'
A new and modern take on the 80s film, "Overboard" is about a wealthy and selfish Mexican playboy, Leonardo (Eugenio Derbez) and a hard-working single mother, Kate (Anna Faris) whose paths cross.
Kate, a mother of three young girls, is working multiple jobs and trying to pass her nursing exam to maintain her family when she comes across Leonardo. When Leonardo falls overboard from his yacht and wakes up with amnesia, Kate sees an opportunity and takes it.
Although storyline remains mainly the same, there are multiple twists and spins.
Reversing the gender roles gives this a fresh take from the 1987 original. Eugenio taking the part of the wealthy playboy and Anna takes on the role of a single mother in desperate need, all while modernizing the story and adding more current ideas.
There are many things to be surprised at if you have seen the original, besides the apparent gender change.
Without giving too much away, I can say that you will be pleasantly surprised with the additional humor that Derbez brings to the table, in addition to Faris quirky-ness. The chemistry created between them is not a usual one, but most definitely an entertaining one.
"Overboard" is a fun and heartfelt film that will leave you with a smile on your face as you walk out the theater. Just as said in the film, "La vida real si es mejor que las telenovelas." Which translates to "Real life really is better than soap operas."
