“Avengers: Infinity War” box office numbers have hit the $1 billion mark. The next stop is $2 billion worldwide, allowing the film to join a very select group of films to achieve that goal. Can the “Infinity War” box office pass $2 billion before the end of May? It’s certainly possible if the current trend of ticket sales continues. It’s also creating a lot of attention for “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” which will only serve to help Marvel and Disney.
Updated numbers from Box Office Mojo
In its first 10 days of release, “Avengers: Infinity War” has now made just over $453 million in the United States.
In the foreign markets, the film has brought in another $714.6 million. The lifetime gross for “Avengers 3” is roughly $1.168 billion already. Those numbers count the early night showings from April 26 and run through the viewings on May 6. By the time this article has been published, the gross will have likely already passed $1.2 billion worldwide.
All-time box office list
On the all-time list of the most successful films, there are already two 2018 films in the top 15. The “Avengers: Infinity War” box office has the film at No. 15 overall, while the “Black Panther” box office ($1.339 billion) has that film at No. 9 all-time. Both films still have some work to do to catch up to the highest grossing Marvel films.
“Marvel’s The Avengers” made an estimated $1.52 billion in 2012 and then “Avengers: Age of Ultron” made an estimated $1.405 billion in 2015. It appears like there could be four Marvel films in the top 10 very soon. The ultimate becomes whether “Avengers 3” can make it all the way to the top of the list.
According to Box Office Mojo, the top-grossing film of all-time is “Avatar” at about $2.788 billion from back in 2009.
The next films on the list are “Titanic” at $2.188 billion in 1997 and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at $2.068 billion in 2015. Those are the only three films to ever pass the $2 billion mark in the worldwide numbers. Can the “Avengers 3” box office find the latest Marvel chapter joining that successful group of films?
When does ‘Avengers 4’ hit theaters?
The next untitled Avengers movie, nicknamed “Avengers 4,” will hit theaters on May 3, 2019. Most of the details about the film have been kept under wraps, but it will debut after the “Captain Marvel” film that the production company has been working on. While the success of “Avengers 4” isn’t likely to come close to the “Avengers: Infinity War” box office totals, it should still do really well in theaters.
