Netflix definitely comes in handy when you want to binge-watch a season or three of your favorite TV show. Maybe you want to watch that movie from six months ago that your friends keep talking about. Whatever the case, Netflix most likely has the program you're looking for. Netflix has become popular for not only its streaming service but for its original content as well. The first Netflix original, "House of Cards," was released in 2013.
Since then, the platform has continued to put out original TV Shows and Movies in various genres. What's nice about Netflix is the content isn't censored, so writers have a lot more freedom when they're creating their material. Here are five Netflix originals you should watch if you haven't already.
'Black Mirror'
If you want to question everything you've ever thought about or anything you could possibly think about, check out the series "Black Mirror." The episodes aren't connected so you don't need to watch in any particular order, which is helpful in case your binge-buddy watches without you.
This show tackles a wide range of issues and the scary possibilities that our future could hold. Get ready for a roller coaster of plot twists throughout the show's four seasons.
'To The Bone'
This movie received mix reviews due to its controversial topic. "To The Bone" follows the story of Ellen, a girl suffering from anorexia nervosa. The movie progresses to show her dysfunctional family life, her time at a group home, and the sad truth of the relapse/recovery cycle most people with eating disorders go through. Most of the people who worked on the movie have had experiences with an eating disorder, so the overall tone is vulnerable and authentic. One thing to be wary about is that it can potentially be triggering for anyone who struggles with similar issues.
'Big Mouth'
Nick Kroll has given us a gift with "Big Mouth." This adult cartoon is hilarious and inappropriate in the best way. Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Fred Armison, Jenny Slate, and Jordan Peele are just a few of the comedians who have lent their voices for the show. "Big Mouth" bluntly describes what it's like for teenagers to go through puberty. Be prepared for sick, dark, and dirty jokes. Season 2 is set to premiere sometime in 2018.
'Before I Wake'
We all wish our dreams could come true, right? This is the plot for "Before I Wake," a horror that follows a young boy whose dreams become reality. The problem is his nightmares also invade real life. A grieving couple adopts the orphaned boy, who soon learn about his abilities and how to manipulate the way he manifests his dreams.
The boy tries to stay awake as much as possible, but sleep is inevitable.
'Stranger Things'
"Stranger Things" skyrocketed with popularity when it first hit Netflix in 2016. The show released its second season in 2017, with the third season in the works for 2019. Winona Ryder and David Harbour play important roles in the series, but it's the young actors who really bring the show to life. Season 1 starts with the disappearance of a young boy. His mother, a detective, and his friends all try to find him. They're forced to confront otherworldly forces and a strange universe in hopes of rescuing him.
