“Captain Marvel” is still more than a year away from happening, but the rumors about the characters joining her adventure fill the internet with positive vibes. While the rest of the world is currently focused on the upcoming blockbuster “Avengers: Infinity War,” the production team behind Marvel Studios’ first female superhero are bringing back old characters to raise the tension of Carol Danvers’ origin story.
Two ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ alumni comes back
In addition to Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders, it was reported by Entertainment Weekly that three Marvel Cinematic Universe alumni will come back to complete the “Captain Marvel” cast.
Two of them came from “Guardians of the Galaxy” – Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou. Pace and Hounsou will reprise the roles of Ronan the Accuser and Korath the Pursuer, respectively. They will interact with the “Captain Marvel” characters in a 1990’s setting.
The Entertainment Weekly report added that these two characters will be the reason why Mar-Vell will seek refuge on Earth in the first place. He will be followed by Korath under Ronan’s orders. The role of Mar-Vell will be played by Jude Law who is basically a newcomer to the MCU.
Ben Mendelsohn will also appear in the movie, playing an unspecified role. However, rumors afloat that he will play the villain Yon-Rogg. Mendelsohn will be joined by McKenna Grace, Lashana Lynch, Algenis Perez Soto, Gemma Chan, and Rune Temte.
Enter Agent Coulson
The third character making a comeback to the MCU is S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson. Coulson, who is played by Clark Gregg, was killed in the events of the first “Avengers” movie. His character was brought back to life and since then, became an active cast member of the TV series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Clark Gregg also appeared in the first and second “Iron Man” films as well as the first “Thor” film.
Will Captain Marvel ever appear on the fourth Avengers film?
It is highly possible that Brie Larson's Carol Danvers will be introduced on the fourth as yet untitled "Avengers" movie. As we all know, Marvel Studios has a long tradition of introducing new characters on their current film. However, the extent of Captain Marvel’s participation in the fourth "Avengers" movie is still unclear.
Some fans speculate that once Thanos and his Black Order are finally defeated, she will take over the leadership of a new team of Avengers to protect the world.
“Captain Marvel” has a tentative release date of March 8, 2019.
