Kody Brown’s marriage to his first wife Meri hasn’t been exactly smooth-sailing. Their marital problems have been highlighted in the last season of “Sister Wives,” with Kody openly admitting in the concluding tell-all episode that he isn’t interested in being intimate with Meri anymore. Despite their falling out, it seems that Kody and Meri are trying their best to work on their relationship.

Kody and Meri celebrate their 28th wedding anniversary

Saturday, April 21, marked Kody and Meri’s 28-years of marriage. Meri shared a sweet photo of how they celebrated their special day.

In the picture, the couple can be seen standing close to each other, with wide smiles on their faces.

According to the 47-year-old "sister wife," she was in Chicago over the weekend for a business trip. Kody took the chance to make a grand gesture to make his wife feel special—he flew out just to be with Meri.

“Sister Wives” fans responded to Meri’s post and flooded her with greetings. For many fans, the couple’s latest selfie is proof that there is hope for the two despite their marriage drama.

“Love that you guys can show the world that no matter what, love can overcome what most would give up on. Shows how serious your vows to God and each other are,” one fan replied.

Kody and Meri’s relationship: A brief background

Despite being open about their rocky relationship, the “Sister Wives” couple has not given the exact reason for their marriage breakdown. Meri is Kody’s first wife and she was originally the only legal wife of the polygamous family. The two have one daughter together.

However, Kody divorced her so he could legally marry his fourth wife Robyn.

The legalities were needed so he could adopt Robyn’s three children from her previous marriage.

Kody and Meri insisted that their divorce was only on paper, as they were still married spiritually. However, as seen in their long-running reality show, Meri started to feel isolated and detached from their family. Things got worse when Meri tearfully confessed that she had an emotional affair with someone she met online, who later turned out to be a scammer.

In the last season of “Sister Wives,” Kody openly stated that he and Meri were not living as man and wife anymore. As People reported, Kody’s statement caused Meri to break down in tears. In the emotional tell-all interview, Kody did reveal that they are in the process of “healing,” but he doesn’t like to use the word “hope.”

“We dug this hole for 25 years. It’s not something we’re going to fix with a weekend getaway,” the 50-year-old polygamous patriarch said.
