With hip-hop music becoming a popular genre of music these days, there are many artists who create and perform hip-hop music. While there are many popular hip-hop artists that many people have heard of, such as Drake, Eminem, and Migos. There are also artists that create hip-hop music that isn't as popular like Mike Stud, Killy, Wocka Flocka Flame, and Lil Skies. Hip-hop music is so popular, that even professional athletes, like Damian Lillard, Lonzo Ball, and Victor Oladipo have taken a shot at producing their own music. Even ordinary citizens have created their own music because all you really need to create a hip-hop song is a beat, some lyrics, and a recording device.
While there are so many artists that I haven't named, there's one that is starting to stand out from everyone, and his name is Rich Brian.
About Rich Brian
Rich Brian (which his real name is Brian Imanuel), was born in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 3, 1999, which makes him 18 years old. He was formerly known as Rich Chigga but he changed his name to Rich Brian on New Years as people found Rich Chigga racist and insulting. He never really went to school as he spent his youth working at a cafe that his parents owned. With Indonesian being his primary language, he learned how to speak English by watching YouTube videos and listening to hip-hop songs on the internet which, in turn, influenced him to create his own hip-hop music.
He has referenced Young Thug, Tyler the Creator, Yung Lean and Childish Gambino as those who inspired him to enter into the hip-hop industry.
Music career
While under the name of Rich Chigga, in July 2015, he released his first song called "Living the Dream." In February 2016, he released a song called "Dat $tick" which gained international recognition and received over 90 million views on YouTube.
Another song that he is well known for is "Glow Like Dat" which was released on August 14, 2017, and has over 50 million views on YouTube.
In the months of September, October, and November 2017, he went on his first nationwide tour which he named the "Come to my Party" tour and it had multiple sold-out shows. He toured in places like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, and Toronto.
He even took his tour to Europe and performed a few shows there.
In February 2018, he released his first album called "Amen" which reached #1 on iTunes and made him the first Asian to reach that particular #1 spot. His debut album features "Glow Like Dat" and has other songs like "Cold," "Introvert," "Chaos" and more. Offset from Migos is featured on a song called "Attention" in this album.
Other songs that Brian wrote are "See Me," "Crisis" ft 21 Savage, "18" ft Joji, Kris Wu, Trippie Redd and Bauerr, and "Trespass" to name a few.
Recent news
Just four days ago, he released a new song with a music video called "Watch out!" which is produced strictly by him and also co-directed the music video with Adrian Pereyra.
It surpassed a million views on its release date and it now currently has 1.8 million hits.
In May, Rich Brian will be doing a few shows in Australia and New Zealand which are places that he has never toured before. The dates he was originally supposed to be performing became sold out so he added in more concert dates which are expected to be sold out as well.
Having an album reach #1 on iTunes, having songs get millions of views on YouTube, one of which received over a million views in one day, and touring cities with sold out shows is pretty impressive for someone that's barely 18 years old and who learned how to speak English by watching YouTube videos. He's only trending upwards and becoming more popular with every hit song that he releases. It's time to start taking notice of Rich Brian.
