On Tuesday morning at the White House, Donald Trump held a bipartisan meeting with members of Congress to discuss a path forward on immigration reform. The meeting with broadcasted live to cable news outlets, and TV host Stephen Colbert had a few words to say about it, while also taking a shot at Trump for appearing at the college football championship the night before.

Trump's anthem blunder

On Monday night, Donald Trump appeared at the college football National Championship game between Alabama and Georgia. The president was met with some cheers and many boos as he stood for the national anthem prior to kick off. Trump was mocked across social media for appearing to mouth the wrong words, which was highlighted during a satirical lip-reading video during the January 9 edition of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."

Colbert on Immigration

The issue of immigration has been one of the hottest political topics for decades, as both Republicans and Democrats are often so far apart on reaching a compromise that legislation never has enough legs to move forward.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump held a meeting with Congress, which was made public to the media as lawmakers discussed the issue in front of millions of Americans watching at home. As the meeting came to a close, both sides appeared to at least agree on a short term bill that would fund border security and have Trump sign off on an extension for DACA, which the president called a "bill of love." This meeting was highlighted during Tuesday night's "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert."

Kicking off his usual opening monologue on Tuesday night, "The Late Show" host Stephen Colbert took a shot at Donald Trump over his immigration plans. "Donald Trump held a bipartisan meeting on immigration reform focused mainly on reforming our policy of having immigrants," Colbert said.

Stephen Colbert warned that if both sides don't come to an agreement by January 20, that the government would shutdown, before jokingly commenting, "or as historians call it, 'one year too late.'" The host continued to poke fun at the meeting, especially due to the cameras being allowed in, saying, "They don’t even let cameras into The Bachelor fantasy suite." In conclusion, Colbert joked, "You know what they say: if you love someone, kick them out of the country...If they come back to you, build a wall so they can’t get in."

Following Donald Trump's relatively calm meeting with Congress, he took to Twitter just a few hours later to slam Democrats for not willing to compromise further on the issue of DACA and border security, calling their stance "sickening." While it's unknown if immigration reform will happen anytime soon, many high-profiled names in entertainment appear willing to hold the president's feel to the fire for as long as it takes.
