Actor Sam Rockwell will be the host for the next new episode of "Saturday Night Live" on January 13. This will be the first new episode of 2018, and it will also be Rockwell's first time hosting the late night sketch comedy show. Hot off of his Golden Globe win, Rockwell will likely bring lots of enthusiasm and vigor to the "SNL" stage.
A man of many faces
Rockwell is now a Golden Globe Award winner, as he took home the prestigious award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri." The movie was a huge hit among critics and was nominated for nine Golden Globes.
Besides Rockwell's win, the film also won for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress - Drama.
In the film, Rockwell plays Jason Dixon, a racist police officer in the town of Ebbing, Missouri. Prior to his award-winning role in "Three Billboards," the 49-year-old actor starred in a huge number of films throughout the years. Many people will recognize Sam Rockwell from his work in "Iron Man 2," "The Green Mile," "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," and "Moon."
If none of those movies ring a bell, there's many more to choose from. Through the years, Rockwell has been in over 60 movies and over a dozen theater performances.
Musical guest for January 13
Another newbie will take the "Saturday Night Live" stage this weekend.
There will be music by Halsey, a 23-year-old singer who released her second studio album, "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom," this past June. The album went to number one on the Billboard 200.
Halsey has a hit song on her hands right now titled "Bad at Love." The tune, she told "Billboard," was inspired by Leonardo DiCaprio. There's no doubt that Halsey will perform it this Saturday on "SNL," but it's anybody's guess as to what other song she will sing.
The month of January is going to be a good one for "Saturday Night Live." The hosts and musical guests are all set, and viewers can look forward to seeing some new faces as well as some old faces. Next week on "SNL," Jessica Chastain will host for the first time and the Musical Guest for the night will be Troye Sivan.
Then, on January 27, "SNL" veteran Will Ferrell will return to the stage to host.
This will be Ferrell's fourth time hosting, but he has made countless cameos and was a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" from 1995-2002. The musical guest for January 27 is country singer Chris Stapleton. The musician has performed on "SNL" one time before, back in January of 2016.
