On Sunday night, Oprah Winfrey gave a ten-minute speech at the Golden Globes that brought the crowd to their feet and caused the internet to go viral with speculation about a potential 2020 run for president. After Ivanka Trump gave her thoughts, it didn't take long for social media users to sound off.

Ivanka on Oprah

Heading into the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards show this past Sunday night, many wondered if any of the celebrities would speak out against Donald Trump due to the current hostile political environment. Kicking off the show was host Seth Meyers, who took a few shots at the former host of "The Apprentice" during his opening monologue.

Meyers poked fun at Trump's recklessness on Twitter, most notably his recent tweets about North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Trump was also mocked for his treatment of the press, Hillary Clinton, and immigrants, which received a laugh from the more liberal-leaning office. However, the mood of the night shifted when Oprah took the stage while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille for her contributions to the entertainment industry where she spoke out about the importance in raising awareness to sexual assault and harassment, as well as continuing to fight for gender equality and ending racism. In response, many called for Oprah to run for president, with her longtime partner Stedman Graham confirming that it's a possibility.

The president has yet to offer a comment, though his daughter Ivanka Trump did just that in a tweet on January 8.

Taking to her Twitter feed on Monday night, Ivanka Trump tweeted her thoughts about Oprah's speech and made sure to give praise.

"Just saw @Oprah's empowering & inspiring speech at last night’s #GoldenGlobes," Ivanka tweeted. "Let’s all come together, women & men, & say #TIMESUP! #United" she wrote. Within minutes, those who oppose the current administration fired back.

Ivanka backlash

After Ivanka Trump tweeted out about Oprah, she didn't get the most positive reaction in return.

"Great! You can make a lofty donation to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund that is available to support your father's accusers," actress Alyssa Milano wrote back.

"When she was talking about corruption, she was talking about you and your family. Did you miss that?" one Twitter user asked. "Times up for who? Your predatory father?" in an additional tweet wondered. "Just when we start to think we've identified the stupidest Trump child, another chimes in to plead their case," a follow-up tweet added.

"Honestly Ivanka, it took a staggering level of heinous idiocy for you to post this tweet. So you'll ask your father to resign?," Justin Hendrix tweeted. "Don't sit there asking everyone to unite together against sexual assault when you're father is a sexual abuser and you turned a blind eye to that. hypocrite," yet another tweet stated.
