At one time if I told you that there was abuse surrounding the Duggar family you wouldn’t believe me and thought I was lying. Well, now with Josh Duggar allegedly assaulting five underage girls with two of them being his sisters Jill and Jessa it is probably far easier to believe these new abuse allegations. The family’s church follows the ministry of Bill Gothard who actually was accused of assaulting around fifty women which resulted in him stepping down as a leader of the Institute of Basic Life Principles.

What abuse took place at their church?

Well, as mentioned above Gothard whose ministry the Duggar family follow has been accused of allegedly assaulting around fifty women in the church but according to this Reddit user that is only a small part of the abuse surrounding the Duggar's church. For example, the man said that in his own family he was constantly abused by his father. He said the church played a part in this because they followed a strict familial hierarchy which meant as the child of the family he was at the bottom of that hierarchy. By being at the bottom, it led to his father making advances towards him, and the dad even apparently twisted Bible verses to justify the abuse that he was doing to his son.

His father then died of a heart attack, and you may have thought that was the end of this man’s tragic story, but you would be wrong if you thought so.

Once the man’s father died, and he started to question the church his mother contacted some of the leaders in the church to put him on a secretive programme which I’m sure the Duggar clan knew nothing about.

This was called the “log cabin” programme, and they took him to a place that was disguised as a childcare institute. His mother then signed him into the programme which meant that she signed her custodial rights to the facility. The Redditor stayed at this place for two years, and they constantly punished him for asking too many questions.

Here is what he said online about the situation “For the next two years, I am tortured, brainwashed, starved, sleep-deprived, threatened with a shotgun, punished, humiliated, interrogated, and terrorized.“ With all of this information if it is true and if the Duggar family knew about it I would say they would have a different feeling on their church from now on.

Controversies surrounding the Duggar family

If you thought that this church and Josh Duggar’s issues with the law were the only controversies surrounding the Duggar family, then you would be wrong. For example, Jill Duggar’s husband Derick Dillard has been fired from the show for saying some transphobic comments online towards fellow TLC star Jazz Jennings. None the less, to catch up with all things Duggar you can watch their television show “Counting On.”
